La Liga - Perez: We need two more signings

Eurosport - Sat, 04 Jul 14:24:00 2009

Real Madrid need to sign two more players and off-load about 10 to round off their summer transfer dealings, club president Florentino Perez has said.

The nine-times European champions have already splashed around 215 million euros (£185m) on bringing striker Karim Benzema, winger Cristiano Ronaldo, playmaker Kaka and defender Raul Albiol to the Bernabeu.

"Now we need to calm down a little because squads usually have around 25 players and ours now has some 35," Perez told Spanish television station Cuatro.

"We need to concentrate our efforts on convincing some players that they will have to leave. It should not be forgotten there is a World Cup next summer and all our players want to play in it.

"If players aren't going to have the chance to participate here they'll want to do it somewhere else, to be able to make it to the World Cup.

"As to new signings, I think with two more we would have sufficient."

Perez was asked about Real's interest in Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

"They are both great players but their clubs don't want to sell them, though in the world of football situations can change," he added.

Real have already sold Javier Saviola, and the Dutch contingent of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe and Klaas Jan Huntelaar are all reportedly on the market.

  1. getachew44,

Ronaldo prefers Madrid over United because of money. At United he won 3 leagues in the last 3 seasons and played in the ECL semi finals in each of those seasons. He also played in two ECL finals and won one.

Real Madrid in that time were knocked out in the 2nd round each year and last year they were an absolute joke.

  3. many people over here have limited football knowledge
1 they talk only nagetive things about my madrid.
gus don't forget real won 9 CL, 3 in last 11 years, more than any other team
2 they question the ability of our players, is that envy or jeoleusy?
3 many say real wouldn't win a title......a small question, if real madrid can't win title, why ronaldo prefere real over united?
why kaka prefere real over city and chelsea?
why ribery prefere real over barca, chelsea and united?
don't say money, coz united and chelsea offere better wage to ribery but he want real
city offere kaka 18 mil wage per year but prefere to play for real for half wage 9 mil
why do you think ribery benzema ronaldo and kaka choose real?
coz all know real is the best place to win titles.
people jeoleusy and envy are not good and if you don't know much about football, don't post here.

  7. To Brettri1975: I don't know if Real Madrid have links with the Royal Family (although in Spanish Real Madrid means Royal Madrid, by the way) but it is know that the King supports Barça and the prince supports Atletico Madrid. So, unless the queen, a greek like the Duke of Edinburgh, supports Real I don't know who does in that family... But all the powers that be, i.e. the banks, right wing politicians, the catholic church, the army, the armada and the air forces, plus the press and mass media all are in a huge majority supporters of Real... But not the Royal Family apparently, no.

not true. Blatter actually said he approved of Madrid's approach - or words to that effect. it is rumoured that Blatter and Uefa are actually partially funding these signings.

They had ronaldinho, deco ect......................But they were flop............Now they are in good touch bcoz of TEAM CHEMISTRY........Football is a team game.......Want to achieve something then play team game........................If Real Marid fail to build team chemistry then they are a goner no doubt......................

  15. Real Madrid have no chance of winning La Liga next season - Barcelona will obviously win it, they have no chance of winnin the Champions league either - one of Barcelona, Chelski, Man U or Liverpool - the big four in the past five years - will win it.

Madrid will have to pay off 500mil debts.....*cough* the Spanish public will have to pay it off...

  16. i reckon barca will still win the league.
kaka will be amazing for real but ronaldo will struggle to justify his transfer fee cos he's not a team player and is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.
eto'o, henry and messi will be even better next season.

real v barca champions league final?

  17. Those who say that Real Madrid are not destroying football, OPEN YOUR EYES. You can not tell me that Real Madrid are not funded by the Spanish goverment. Caja Madrid which is a bank in Spain borrowed Real Madrid 90 million euros to buy Ronaldo. And I don't know wheather it's true or not but I've also heard that FIFA partly funded the other transfers. But I don't know wheather to believe that one. At the end of the day, I just hope Ronaldo doesn't get a serious injury because he is a great player, but if he did.........
