Michael Owen to Manchester United? Has the world gone crazy, or just Alex Ferguson?
Or maybe the sceptics are the ones who have lost their marbles and Owen is indeed still capable of doing a job and worthy of a deal with the Premier League champions.
A few days ago the out-of-contract Newcastle striker was weighing up whether to join Hull City or Stoke.
Now, all of a sudden he can entertain the prospect of playing Champions League football next season. A simply amazing turnaround.
So what does Ferguson see in Owen?
You rarely see his name without the prefix 'proven goalscorer', and his career record speaks for itself.
There is no denying he has lost his pace over recent years, but has he retained his instinct for goal? Do strikers like Owen ever lose their eye for the back of the net?
What about his mentality on the pitch at the moment? Ferguson likes to see desire and commitment to the cause from his players, but Owen showed few signs of those qualities in last season's relegation battle with Newcastle.
And of course, there are the doubts over his fitness. Is signing him too much of a gamble? Or with a pay-as-you-play deal in place, will United have done enough to cover their backs?
Where would he play for United? Surely he cannot expect more than a bench role at Old Trafford?
Does his signing smack of a panic buy, having missed out on their other main transfer targets, or is this something that Ferguson has been planning?

I been a utd fan for 43 years and never thought that we would buy from the pool ie everton and x liverpool players but rooney was a fantastic buy, owen on the other hand not sure but i have aways liked him even when he played for liverpool i hope he does well at man u he deserves it, I cant believe liverpool fans call him when he was one of the best players they ever had he is a footballer and i think if he will shine anywhere it wil be at united come on united
We all move jobs or houses for own needs not because of the communitys,if Owen wants to rebuild his career who can blame him ,there arn't many footballers loyal to there roots or bankers or carpenters,Maybe Man u wasting there chmpions league final is a bigger crime,Good Luck Michael ,
Where would he play for United? Surely he cannot expect more than a bench role at Old Trafford?michael as made make a wrong move madrid b4 he come back to newcaslte owen is great player owen will shine back in M.U.F.C UP MAN U
OWEN YOU HORRIBLE F UCKIN NOBBEDD YOU DONTTT MOVE 2 THE SKANCCSS
fergie no`s what he`s doing...he`ll get oewn super match fit...and filling the net`s with goals..........mufc
Dont wish the lad well. Mercenary.
Left LFC then they won a CL.
Warmed bench at Madrid.
Money bags contract a NUFC and did squat but get injured.
Got out when relegated!
Sad, wont do well.
Wont even get back into national team.
Will end up talking horses to Alec (likeaweedrink) Ferguson.
I am a liverpool fan im a bit gutted michael signed for man u,but if any manager can get the best out of michael its sir alex,United fans on here calling fergie for signing him ur all idiots if he can get him back to 80% fitness owen will get 20 goals a season no worrys at all and hes cost you nothing and only 50k a week for a world class striker when hes fit
im a cov city fan n i also think its a good move for owen, hopefully he can get his fitness back and improve with united. i think he could be back to his best soon
glad he went to the mancs way past his best liverpool have had the best out of him the madrid move was a poor one for him
he's a @#$%
I don't think Gerrard and Carragher will be happy with the team Owen's on now,I think they would have liked him to come back to Liverpool and Liverpool need a striker as well as a defender!!!!
I'm a City fan. I hate ManU. But i think Owen will do just fine. I feel a bit sorry for him with all his injuries. And of course, everyone telling him how much of a @#$% he is. I wonder... Don't these people have anything else to do like, I don't know, remember to breathe! It's not his fault. If you get injured, you get injured. And if you want to come back to full fitness, you'll work your @#$% off. Just like Michael's doing for the past 3-4 years. Don't blame him. It's not going to help him at all...
Owen cant go 2 mins without gettin hurt.He is a @#$%. MUFC goin down
cant wait for that first liverpool man utd derby with owen on the other side HAHA!
The guvnor knows best.
Owen will shine shine shine.
chris d. lol.go owen.M.U.F.C
I could not decide if the Owen signing was a good thing or bad. However.....
Is he a proven goal scorer? - YES. (Averages abot 1 goal every 2.5 games)
Did he cost anything? - No
Is it a risk? - No (Utd have other strikers, they're not putting all their eggs in 1 basket)
Could it be a master-stroke? - maybe
Conclusion...No negatives, therefore should be seen as a good thing. If it doesn't work out, so what.
PS: LOVING ALL THE UTD HATERS ON HERE (AS USUAL) SHOWS WE'RE STILL THE BEST IN ALL YOUR HEARTS.
WITH THE NUMBER OF ENGLISH PLAYERS THAT MANU HAVE I KNOW THAT WE WILL BE PLAYING IN THE PREMIERSHIP NEXT SEASON.BUT FOR LIVERPOOL I WONDER IF THEY WILL BE PLAYING IN THE SPANISH LEAGUE
I like Michael Owen and would'nt have minded seeing him come to villa. Yes its a risk but would'nt we all like to see a fully-fit, free scoring Michael Owen in an england shirt at next years world cup?? I think he can still be a good player but the forthcoming season will reveal all!
