Jamie Murray followed his brother on to Centre Court and 80 minutes later his Wimbledon campaign in the mixed doubles was also over.
Murray and American partner Leizel Huber were beaten in the semi-finals by Mark Knowles and Anna Lena Groenefeld 6-2 7-5.
It was the second consecutive year that Murray - a mixed doubles winner in 2007 with Jelena Jankovic - had fallen just one round short of the final with Huber.
But he claimed he was not affected by watching his brother lose to Andy Roddick while he waited in the locker room.
"I was always going to watch the match, it's the first time that my brother has been in the semi-finals of Wimbledon," he said.
"It's so disappointing for him but he can be proud of what he has done during Wimbledon.
"It was very hard to watch and my heart was racing but once I got on to the court, I focused and it didn't cause me any problems.
"It's the first time in my life that I've not wanted to play on Centre Court because if Andy's match had gone to five sets we would have played on Court Three."
It has been a disappointing season for Murray, who claims he does not know what future weeks hold after losing his British doubles number one ranking after failing to gel with a succession of partners.
"Getting to the semis in the mixed was great but I'm not suddenly playing great tennis," he added.
"I've not no schedule for the next few weeks and no idea who I will be playing with. I need some direction and the only way I'm going to find that is to keep playing tennis."
