i have read some of these comments and many are­ unnecessary. all players including roder federer pick­ and choose tournements, no player plays in every­ tournement so it is unfair to dis serena if she picks­ her tornements. now, what she may have to do is play­ enough tornements to score enough points that all.­ serena and venus are the most talented players, and i­ do not think that they will get the respect they­ deserve till long long after they retire. they could of­ won way more slams, but due to their sisters's­ death and them setting up their businesses they­ haven't. let's just start to watch and respect­ thir talent.

Clearly the WTA ranking system has it problems! Which­ system doesn't? Dinara is clearly unhappy being #1­ without a Grand Slam. The ranking system can be fixed,­ let's leave that to the WTA tour administrators.­ Let's stop the griping and GET ON WITH THE GAME!

I think the ranking system is good. It shows player­ currently form. System adds points if player approves­ his previous tournament result. And vice versus.­ It's so simply and fair. I don't know why are­ certain players complaining? Serena plays the best­ tennis and it's so obvious. She doesn't need to­ tell us. We can see it. Other players are perfectly­ conscious of that. Serena enjoys it. But Serena played­ well gran slams but not other tournaments. She is­ chasing gran slams and it's OK. Safina work hard­ and she played much more tournaments to become number­ 1. I had no trouble with it until Wimbledon. Look the­ way she lost against Venus : 6:1, 6:0. Dinara is such­ a shame. She doesn't deserves number one spot. So­ Serena had a point when she laughed.

Not winning grandslams does not mean Safina has not­ been doin well on grandslams...after all she came­ second at the aussies and french...and even got to the­ semis in wimbledon...but i think the WTA must publish­ the template for its rankings systems so people will be­ better educated on how its done so we dont start­ thinking its abracadabra..if the great serena wins all­ the grandslams but is not number one i may not bother­ too much as the WTA ranking system also awards high­ points to runners up and is not only about the­ grandslams..but one thing dear Safina should realise is­ that you may never be remembered for being number one­ but will be remembered for winning­ grandslams...congrats serena for winning wimbledon­ although i was rootin for venus..and goodluck to safina­ in her future endeavours..

Have you, dear Yankees, for once­ seen some have the same naive and overblown attitude­ about some of their sportsmen/stars/artists and­ completely to forget reality???? But enough­ with politics, I'll just point out again that­ I've been a fan of the Williams sisters since 2000­ so that I don't get biten up. :P The 4 Grand Slams­ are not enough to be number 1, and yes #1 does matter,­ because tennis is life - you need to keep on fighting­ and that's why Roger succeded, though he owes a big­ thanks to Nadal, whom he doesn't insult like Serena­ does Safina. If Serena has some condition which makes­ her unable to compete in the other tournaments she­ should announce it, otherwise she should shut up and go­ play for her desirving number one spot. There, I've­ said it, I'm a bit harsh on her but she needs to do­ something if she really wants to be considered a legend­ like Martina and not a quitter like Justine(come back­ Justine!!) Which takes me to my second point - the­ point in WTA are the same as for the me 's system,­ though Nadal and Fed have around 12000 while in WTA the­ firzt two trail around 9000 - what a difference!! If­ justine was playing, or if the sisters were competing­ in more tournaments rest assured that the points would­ have been very close to the men's. Dinara is still­ young though to be no 1 w/o a slam is an achievement,­ nothing in tennis comes as a present, so she definitely­ has the force for a Slam, rest assured.

Now Federa on the other hand, won US, AUS­ & Wimbledon. One is white man, the other is­ Afro-American. There is another high ranking Brit and­ another high ranking Russian, one played consistently­ with only two masters Spain and Rome and she is­ women's no 1, The other is British no 1 world no 3,­ with no Slam, the day before he played Roddick, he was­ mocking around tennis court playing football and doing­ a lot of heading, he forgot that next day he was going­ to meet Roddick at semi final,. He was so confident, he­ beat Roddick at Queens, so his semi final is assured,.­ On the final day he lost in 4 sets.. The other story­ was Safina, she boasted she beat Venus in Rome masters­ and confident she was going to beat Venus at wimbledon­ semis, she was humiliated with just one game out of­ possible 12 games. These similarities between murray­ and safina is a hit for us.
