Wimbledon - Williams sisters win doubles

Venus and Serena Williams put their clash in the singles final behind them to win the women's doubles title in emphatic style.

As the sun dipped down behind Centre Court's roof, Serena and Venus teamed up to win their fourth Wimbledon women's doubles title, defeating Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs of Australia 7-6 6-4.

It was consolation of sorts for Venus, who had lost the women's singles final to her sister earlier in the day.

Serena beat her older sibling 7-6 6-2 to deny her a hat-trick of Wimbledon singles titles, while at the same time claiming a third Sw19 crown of her own.

Venus has now lost six of the eight grand slam singles finals she has played against Serena, three of them at Wimbledon.

  2. Although we expect to see more from them, but u can­ blame them for a short second set. Serena was totally­ focus during the second set. And we know how good­ Serena is when she playing at her best. Serena was­ totally prepared after the epic Semi with Elena. I­ thought, if she can win that match she deserve to win­ the Slam. The match with Elena really help her alot in­ the FInals. Venus however have a more smoother journey­ to the FInal. Her match gets shorter and shortet every­ round. Even the world no. 1 was crushed in an hour.­ That was like "woah". You cant blame Venus­ for not able to keep up with Serena who was actually­ ready towin after her close defeat in the semis. Some­ even say that its like Venus allow Serena to win. I­ totally disagree. Think about it guys. Would you give­ up the chnace to be in the history to have won 3­ consecutive years. You can see how dissapointed venus­ was. So for those who say the match was a give away­ mtach, please have respect for these two ladies. They­ have been a true sportswoman in ther career.

    Very well put Hatsutking and I send my brotherly­ greetings to you all the way in China. If I knew which­ american indian tribe you hail from, I would have sent­ you the most appropriate greeting to suit.
    Indeed­ congrats to the williamses for the doubles crown, even­ if it was embarassing for me to watch as Venus (who­ usually says most for their doubles exploits) played­ like she just did not have a clue what the doubles game­ was about. She just whacked the ball back without­ thinking about placing the ball and Serena, as usual­ bless her, just skewed a barrage of unforced errors­ mixed with brilliant winners that proved sufficient to­ win the match. That doesn't bode well for the­ women's doubles game when a 'novice'­ pairing are good enough to win a slam title because the­ opposition are just so poor.

  18. #20, for your correction, I will recall the two­ meetings between Navratilova and Steffi Graf, In 1987,­ Navratilova beat Graff in two sets, In the following­ year 1988, Graf beat Navratilova in three sets. In 2008­ Venus beat Serena in two sets, In 2009 Serena beat­ venus in tw sets. You can go on and on with rivalry in­ sports and get more history and be enlightened on how­ events are made. There is similiarities in what I have­ showed you. The only difference is Williamses. Of the 8­ Wimbledon; 3 for Serena 5 for Venus. Do you call this­ square deal? Get a life please. Another was encounter­ between Azarenka and Serena at AO when Serena­ prevailed. It was deduced that Azarenka was exhausted.­ Well they now met at Wimbledon to settle scores and­ Serena prevailed in two sets and got the crown. Very­ soon we will be seeing Azarenka playing like Dinara to­ win wta tours and coming to no 1 position. The rules­ allows it. The way she is playing at the moment is­ doubtful if she can meet up with the demand of power­ players. Note that Safina got to number one without­ beating a top 10 player except perhaps in the wta tour­ non events that made her the no. 1 No grudge as this is­ the system that has no respecter of persons.. JJ had­ the same day in week in play not really contending with­ top 10 players until she became no 1.
