Watford striker Tommy Smith could be on his way to Sheffield United after Blades boss Kevin Blackwell confirmed that they have have had an offer accepted for the striker.

The Hornets revealed on Thursday that they had accepted a £1.8 million bid for Smith and it now appears that the Blades are in pole position to secure his services.

Blackwell told his club`s official website: "We are in negotiations with the player and his agent and the fact that our bid has been successful and we can talk to him is a good stage to be at but it remains to be seen whether we can complete the deal.

"We had a bid knocked back for him a while ago but we have a list of four or five quality players we are interested in."
