'My luck ran out' - Boruc

Sat, 04 Jul 12:04:05 2009

Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has admitted his personal life affected his performances last season.

But he insists he is not out of form - just that all his mistakes went punished. Boruc made a number of high-profile errors, most famously when he mis-kicked a pass-back and allowed Northern Ireland to claim a 3-2 win over Poland, while he has also found himself in trouble for breaching disciplinary rules for club and country, following the break-up of his marriage.

"I don't accept all this talk that I'm in bad form," the 29-year-old said. "Last season I made five serious mistakes in games for Poland and Celtic, which is roughly the same as I did the year before."

He added: "But no one said it was my fault then, because those errors went unpunished. A lot comes down to luck - and sometimes your luck runs out."

Boruc was targeted by the Northern Ireland fans at Windsor Park but claims the abuse had nothing to do with him conceding two poor goals.

"My form in the match in Belfast when Poland lost 3-2 to Northern Ireland and the earlier game in Bratislava, when we lost 2-1 to Slovakia, was related to my personal situation," he told the Polish press.

"In Belfast, I wasn't scared of the Northern Ireland fans' taunting.

"I like pressure; I like when the fans are screaming at me.

"The influence on my performances in the Slovakia and Northern Ireland games was not fans, but my personal situation.

"Never mind if you are a worker in a factory or you are a goalkeeper playing in front of thousands of people every week - if you have personal problems it will affect you at work, no matter what you do."

  12. Hey stuart, you keep saying no news at ibrox. There is more going on there than ceptic park where you lot have a stutter with the same stories from last most. Thompson fit and starting first game. Aaron showing loyalty. Boughy staying put. Davis not being alowed to be sold when were so called skint. Any NEW news from ceptic park? NO didnt think so. same old same old.

  13. 1 - BORAT 2??... Actually, if you were blessed with having even just ONE BRAIN CELL, you would come to realise that there is no new Borat movie. Or are you trying to tell us that BORAT was the sequel to Ali G Indahouse?? Back to your buckfast and smack aperatif, my man!!

  14. Pt19....Rangers are not skint and are not releasing 10 players and the bank dont want £6 million before Nov 09 and It is so funny that all the gers fans are posting on the Celtic news cause there nowt from IBROKE

  15. Ellis, half the time it's the media who fabricate Celtics interest in great players.

Over the last few years we've had tripe from Chairman Dave about possibility of signing, Ronaldo (goofy one), Del Piero, and my own personal fave.... having a 3 million pound bid for Mpenza turned down a few days after another club had a £9 million one rejected.

From GEORGE, on Sat 4 Jul 2:22PM
  16. Brilliant! You should give the day job.
Its not Celtic fans that say Rankers are skint. Its The Royal Bank of Scotland. They want paid and are looking for a sizeable chunk of that debt in a couple of months. I think you should make yourself aware of whats happening at your club. My mistake, you cant cos they aint sayin shyt.

    From sherbet_d, on Sat 4 Jul 1:59PM
  17. Why are you always going on about Rangers being skint? Just because we have made no signings.
Every year Celtic say they are interested in great players, but you sign heehaw. I wish Celtic fans would realize every year your board tout all these players just to sweeten you lot up while keeping all the money you have earned through campaigns. They are bigger robbers than the M.P's.
I realized today why you lot call Boruc the Holy Goalie, it's nothing to do with religion. He is that fat he fills the WHOLE GOAL.

  18. #16 Over fifty, the Celtic scout wont be able to get near you. You fit in perfectly to bit Wanties plans.

    From sherbet_d, on Sat 4 Jul 1:38PM
  19. Natural wastage my friend. Would you have given big Jan a new contract? The new man needs to put his stamp on the club. Wee chesney left a squad that some will fit in to Moggas style of playing and some wont. Everybody knows to expect at Ibroke, we'll have to wait and see whats served up at Celtic Park. Hopefully we'll get Old Firm games worth watching this year.
