Robins await Ashton Vale decision

Planning permission for Bristol City's proposed new stadium at Ashton Vale has been submitted.

The Robins have officially handed over the application to Bristol City Council and North Somerset Council and now face an anxious wait until a decision is made in October.

City are hoping to move from Ashton Gate to a new 30,000 all-seater stadium, which would occupy a former landfill site.

The £65million stadium comprises of four separate stands and forms a key part of Bristol's bid to be one of the host cities should England land the 2018 World Cup, with the chance to extend capacity to 42,000 should both parties be successful.

Robins chairman Steve Lansdown told the club's official website: "A new stadium would bring substantial benefits for both the club and the city as a whole, creating a world-class sports facility, strengthening the local economy and driving the ongoing regeneration of south Bristol."
