Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has backed Michael Owen to be a goalscoring success at Manchester United.
Owen completed a surprise switch to Old Trafford on Friday night just two days after he became a free agent when his contract at Newcastle expired.
Rush told Sky Sports News: "It's a chance for Michael to get back and score some goals. He'll get chances for Manchester United and will score goals."
Injuries have ruined recent seasons for Owen and the England striker made just 71 league appearances for the Magpies since his move from Real Madrid in 2005.
However, Rush believes the move gives Owen an opportunity to return to form in front of goal after scoring just 30 times in all competitions in the north-east.
The former Wales forward added: "People have knocked Michael Owen all his career but he comes back bigger and better.
"People said he was finished years ago but he's a fantastic player who comes back stronger and better.
"It (the talk) won't worry him, I know the way he is and he doesn't have to prove anything anyway."
Former Liverpool favourite Rush - who scored more than 220 goals for the club in two spells either side of an ill-fated stint in Italy with Juventus - believes Owen would make a good impression were he to return to Anfield.
However, the 47-year-old added: "Personally, I'd like to have seen him at Liverpool but they haven't lost their best strikers. He (manager Rafael Benitez) will be happy with what he's got."

they will get him fit and playing, scoring goals again then sell him for 10 million, cant belive no one else thought of it.
he's past it, the little bollix.
TRAITOR CANT FORGIVE THIS AT ALL OWEN YOU HAVE GONE DOWN THE PAN MONEY GRABBING GIT
W A N K
rushie sorry your wrong just a sick note and a gambler
I have said for a long time that we should not rule out owen. I am excited by this transfer. He will prove everyone who doubts him wrong. Why he has to prove anything to anyone is beyond me with a record like his.M.U.F.C.
"Rooney slides the ball through to Owen, he rounds Reina - in front of the Kop - GOAL!!" Sweet!!
What a load of bollix this article is. I have great respect for rush as a player, he was fantastic at Liverpool but I've never read as much shyte from someone who is involved in the game.
Who's been knocking Owen all his career? people have said he's a greedy little t**t, motivated by money and always injured but who thinks he's not?
"People said he was finished years ago but he's a fantastic player who comes back stronger and better" people payed £16mil for him years ago and gave him £110,000 a week
in wages. And when has he ever come back stronger and better for us and England? so are we to believe Owen is much stronger and better now after his two and a half hour drive down the M1. Utter cr4p
PerhapsRobbo could make a suprise return to midfeld/??
Seeing Owen holding up a Manure scarf almost made me vomit. At least King Kenny knows where his TRUE loyalties lie.
had a very high regard for RUSH as a player but regard his comments about OWEN as @#$%. you will see- at first opportunity hell twist his ankle and will sit on his arse taking the piss out of another club. i think FERGUSSON is showing signs of dementia and should be replaced immediatelly before he signs GLEN HODDLE
he is past it
