Plymouth Argyle are reportedly set to sign QPR midfielder Simon Walton for a club-record fee of £750,000, subject to a medical.Argyle boss Paul Sturrock has confirmed the club are set to unveil a new player within the next 48 hours.
Boss Sturrock has been so far frustrated in his attempts to bolster his depleted squad in time for the first game of the new Championship season against Wolves on Saturday.
The club have been strongly linked with tough-tackling 20-year-old Walton, but Sturrock refused to clarify the player's identity.
Sturrock said: "We have one player who has put pen-to-paper on the proviso that he passes a medical on Tuesday.
"I would like to think, before the end of the transfer window, we will have several more players coming to the football club."
Scottish striker Steve MacLean is currently Argyle's record signing following his £500,000 move from Cardiff in January.
