Carl Edwards won his fourth race of the season after taking the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.
Edwards' gamble to pit just before a rain delay at the summer race at Pocono Raceway turned into an inspired move - although he'd argued with crew chief Bob Osborne about doing it in the first place.
"I was really nervous that we made the wrong call there," Edwards said after celebrating with a backflip off his car. "Bob's the smartest guy in the world. We were really arguing. We made light of it, but we thought we made the wrong call."
It turned into a superb move, because while leaders Kasey Kahne and Mark Martin had to pit with just 15 laps left - giving them no chance of victory - Edwards was able to coast home.
The win vaulted Edwards into third place in the points standings behind Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Busch ran out of fuel in pit lane and was credited with 36th place after coming into add fuel in fifth place. Earnhardt Jr's car stopped just after crossing the finish line, but he was overtaken at the line, putting him into 12th place.
Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick - who had been involved in a crash at the start of the race, David Ragan, Clint Bowyer, Kahne, Martin, Jamie McMurray and Jeff Gordon.
With five races to go until the cut-off for the race, things are hotting up in the standings.
After Busch, Earnhardt, and Edwards, Johnson is fourth, followed by Jeff Burton (who fell two place after Pocono), and Gordon. Kahne is seventh, above Greg Biffle (who fell a place despite a respectable 13th place) and Stewart, who rose a place. Denny Hamlin fell two places to 10th, while Kevin Harvick -- who had been in 13th place before his race - leapt into 11th. Clint Bowyer is 12th, nine points ahead of Matt Kenseth, who is on the outside looking in in 13th place despite finishing 11th.
