Zenit St Petersburg have denied lowering the asking price of Tottenham target Andrei Arshavin.
The striker's potential move to Spurs appeared to be revived when reports in Russia suggested they would slash the £24million price tag to £19m - much closer to what the Premier League club would be willing to spend.
But Zenit have hit back, with spokesman Alexei Blinov branding these rumours "untrue".
The club's sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya said: "The situation has not changed. Tottenham offered us £15.8m for Andrei, but that does not work for us. We are waiting for a new proposal."
Spurs are certainly not lacking funds having recently sold Robbie Keane to Liverpool and boss Juande Ramos will find himself short on forward power should Dimitar Berbatov leave White Hart Lane.
David Villa was regarded as another possibility but, as with the case of Arshavin, Valencia's £30m valuation is just too steep.
However if Berbatov stays, Ramos could well decide to spend any more money elsewhere considering Giovani dos Santos' encouraging pre-season performances behind a revitalised Darren Bent.

Arshavin is coming to Spurs! and Berba is going to Man U! I know this because I've just changed my dogs name from Berba to Arshi. He is confused by the name change but he's started running around the penalty box instead of sulking by the half way line so he must knwo something too.
if berbatov is worth 30 million so is david villa. go get him!
with a midfield of bentley, jenas, modric and de santos whats going to happen to the wardrobe ( fatty Huddlestone) and Lennon
DEFENSE STARTS FROM THE MIDFIELD ESPECIALLY THE DEFENSIVE MID PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE OPPONENTS'S CREATIVE MID. ITS NOT THE SOLE JOB OF THE DEFENDERS. BUT IT WOULD BE GOOD THAT SPURS BUY A GOOD DEFENDRE AND A GOOD MID-DEF
The defence suffered last year mainly because of injuries, and maybe having Robinson in goal did'nt help. Any team that lose their main defenders will concede goals. Robinson was conceding a lot last year, as soon as he got dropped and Cerny was number 1, we conceded about a goal a game, which was'nt ideal but better than Robbo.
This new goalie looks good, mind you he has'nt had to do a lot as spurs have played everyone off the park so far, though that will change when the league starts. Even with a makeshift defence we have'nt had that many goals against us. I think all in all, things are looking good. COYS
Sounds like he has his front two. Now how about that defense. Let 'em down time and again last year.
