The WBC super middleweight champion on Kelly Brook, hot tubs, and the pure joy of winning the 100m on sports day.
What is your earliest sporting memory?
Probably sports day. There was no greater event in the sporting calendar for me as a child than sports day because I used to win the 100m. It used to really lift me and give me a great buzz.
Which opponent have you enjoyed beating the most?
Probably Tony Dodson, because of all the hype and the rubbish which preceded it, however it was a dissatisfying victory because it was over so quickly. I was very annoyed in the lead-up to the fight, so that was the one.
Where is the worst place you have competed at?
The Derby Storm Arena: there was a big hole in the wall and it was freezing cold. It was absolutely horrible! The fighters had to walk through the bar to get to the ring. That was when I fought Alan Page in my seventh fight to become the English champion.
What is the best thing you have ever blagged?
A six-seater hot tub. It is class.
What is the music which gets you going before a fight?
Johnny Cash, the 'At Folsom Prison' album - there is plenty of sit-back, mellow music I like. I also play the guitar so I like a lot of music like that, but Johnny Cash is the man.
What song would you sing at a karaoke?
'A Boy Named Sue', by Johnny Cash.
What is your most extravagant purchase?
A £5,000 watch. It is a Panerai.
How do you like to unwind after a fight?
I used to like a pint of Guinness, but I have knocked that on the head now. The nicest way to unwind for me now is to have a meal the day after with my close friends and family. We have a Sunday lunch and reflect on all the training and everything beforehand.
What is the cutest animal you have eaten?
A duck. That is cute isn't it?
What is your ideal woman, apart from the missus?
I would have to say Kelly Brook, although my girlfriend Rachael Cordingley is a model and a celebrity herself.
Who or what grinds your gears?
Bad tenants, because I have a string of properties as a landlord. Bad tenants really wind me up, although I don't rent to students at all.
If your house were on fire, what material possession would you save?
The bundle of cash I have under my bed. No, in all seriousness, I would grab my WBC belt and my other boxing memorabilia. That stuff really means a lot to me.

B hop would KO every single one of the 'super' 'six'.
Please no more comparisions of Jones Junior and the men of today, my gran could beat him him one handed and she has been dead 6 years. That is how long ago Roy jones left the planet. The super middles of today and I mean the ones in the super series could all beat the Jones of today and probably of 6 years ago. Where does he come into this anyway?
Carl Froch is a man on a mission (according to him and we have to believe him) and an outstanding athlete. I feel that he will have a little too much for the other guys involved. He can dig, can take a dig, and has incredible heart and stamina. He will be pushed by at least two of them but will have enough grind and determination to come out of the series as champ. He deserves the acclaim at this stage of his career for not ducking opponents. He fought a very dangerous young opponent in his last outing and his heart and grit coupled with his skill saw him through. Yes he had us all on the edge of our seats but what a fighter
Gareth, are you really suggesting the Roy Jones Jr is the same calibre as the Jones Jr of 6 years ago? If so, you need to re-watch some other fights involving RJJ! In his prime he'd have KO'd Calzaghe. After all, he was a Heavyweight World Champion once. And as a washed-up has-been he could have beaten Calzaghe in that fight in New York. He didn't because he wanted Calzaghe to win his last fight. Re-watch the fight. After the knockdown, he stood there and let JC come at him. After round five, they were virtually hugging after the bell and constantly talking to each other and smiling and winking! I give JC full respect for every opponent he has ever defeated, especially the way he defeated B.Hop BUT don't claim Froch is a nobody. He's only one of two British World Champions and having defeated a future Light Heavyweight Champion (Pascal) and a B.Hop beater (Taylor), deserves a bit more respect then he gets. As for disrespecting Khan...he didn't. Khan wins most fights with a KO. Try to not hit a square through a circle hole next time.
Carl Froch is not fit to wrap Calzaghe's hands, some of you really need to change the station!!
he talks about his fights as though he has beaten all the best fighters in the world! he is now taking on the best of the division, in fairness to him but i see this as a huge mistake! he will be exposed by some of the best fighters in the super middles and all the previous statements of his will make him sound rediculios!!
the middleweight division has some very good fighters! Kessler being the best but kessler is no jones jr! taylor is no hopkins (even though he beat him twice) abraham is no eubank! in the words of the special one "shut up froch"
oh yes, he did mention calzaghie, not by name but by saying that he doesn't go for boring 12 round points decisions because he has a weak chin! he was having a go at two fighters, Calzaghie and Khan! two fighters that do entertain! one has fought the fight of the decade, possably the best fight seen in a british ring and the other has just won a world title 8 years before he did at the age of 22!!!
Froch is a total joke! when he does finally become involved in a good fight he will lose! sooner rather than later!!! the Nottingham nut bag!!!
Froch is an awful fighter! i don't think he watches his fights back!! i have, on many occasions seen froch fight and then re-watched the footage!! if carl froch fought calzahie even now he would finnish froch! i think jermaine taylor has finnished froch, even though he won the fight he took a beating for 11 rounds! and if a blown up middleweight can take him to town then the likes of hopkins, calzaghe, kessler, taylor (the re-match) and abraham will take him out! don't go saying you have a granate chin when a middlewieght puts you on the floor! don't say you entertain people when i have nearly fallen asleep in some of his fights! and don't try to belittle fighters who would finnish your career! fight hopkins carl! i dare you! that would be the only way you could get calzaghie out of retirement! careful what you wish for though! even kiss a**e bunce said that calzaghe would beat froch, to his face, infront of a live tv audience! beat a fighter with one hand for 12 rounds, winning all the rounds with one hand! he wouldn't beat jones jr! not even now! Jones jr would knock him out in 4!!! face facts, he is a good fighter, he did deserve a world title but he hasn't beaten anyone yet and he's 32! calzaghie was 7 years younger when he won his titles!!!
Absolute rubbish!
You mean like Calzaghe calling out Roy Jones Jr for years? Pot and Kettle spring to mind! Froch v Calzaghe would end up with Calzaghe on his backside.
60 seconds with carl froch! kessler will be hoping it doesn't last that long! kessler will beat him, i think taylor would beat him, knowing what he knows! i think carl froch has one hell of a punch but that isn't going to be enough against the top super middleweights! i think in his own right he deserved a world title but to call out calzaghie and make a name off the back of what he did isn't chess!!!!
Have to agree Ross. Can't see Taylor making the same mistake again, (Carl should just steam into him and try and get him out early) I think Kessler will have too much, and the Abraham fight might turn into a classic. I'd love Carl to win - in the photo, he looked a fair bit bigger than everyone except Kessler, which is bad news for the rest of the group. My pick would be Kessler to win but I'd hate to see Carl exposed.
carl froch will not get to the final he has one weapon his right hand jt out moved him out boxed him and out classed him for ten rounds was only lack of disapline that cost him somthing tells me that wont happen with kessler athur or maybe even taylor again whos he knocked out 21 guys that are not heard of
really pleased for you carl, used to live in nottingham myself. God loves us.
Now there's a thought, I make you right, xentertainer.
pesajobs + over the top political comments = Neilsenti!
I agree, a granite chin and even more granite fists wil not be enough. I do think Froch will make the final BUT should Kessler make it I think Kessler will KO Froch (on the basis Froch starts so slowly like he did against JT). He does need to start defending his rock chin I agree. BUT, he was a bit 'rabbits in headlights' so who knows? If he learns to go full on assault from the first bell, every fighter will be struggling to contain Froch. But if he lets the pressure of being a Champion catch him cold again, just as in the Taylor fight, he's done for.
Yet again pesajobs, your wisdom is breathtaking.
Is this about boxing or people with nothing else better to do than blame others for their own bone idleness?
froch for me is all about his punch , dont get me wrong he is heavy handed but u need a whole lot more at the level he is at now . I think that was there to see for everyone against taylor , who in my opion is no where near the fighter he was but still easily outboxed carl for best part of the fight.
I don't know Xentertainer. What did Roach do with Khan first. Defence. Has it made him a better fighter? Definately. I'm not knocking McCracken, but if Froch is to have any chance of reaching his full potential, he's got to swallow his pride and go back to basics. The art of hitting without getting hit back. It might be different if he had wonderful footwork, but.....
