Senderos poised for exit

Everton have confirmed that they are in negotiations to sign Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos.

But the Goodison Park club said that a fee has yet to be agreed for the 24-year-old Swiss international after the Swiss Football Federation last night claimed on their website that the defender's move had been confirmed.

However Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: "We have been negotiating with Arsenal for the transfer of Philippe. Nothing has been concluded yet but talks are on-going."

A fee of about £6million is being discussed for the player who was on loan to AC Milan last season, playing 15 times.

An Everton club source insisted that Senderos - who joined Arsenal in 2003 - was not being signed as a direct replacement for Joleon Lescott, who is at the centre of a battle with Manchester City for his signature.

Senderos is being lined up as cover at the back for Everton, where Phil Jagielka is not due back from a knee injury until November at the earliest.

  1. I seem to recall last time Arsenal won the Emeraites cup they blew up while in the lead for the prem title (2007)
I think if they can get a couple of new decent defenders they will be the suprise package of the prem this year
I have a feeling the Prem will be between the two london clubs Arsenal and Chelsea
And Chelseas challenge will be to see how well their new manager understands the Prem and his players

  2. Senderos was never an Arsenal type of player, he was not intelligent enough on the ball. Watched Rosiscky on Saturday, with him back and Arshevin firing these two intelligent footballers will cause defences many problems. Write off Arsenal at your peril. City can spend but Arsenal will still achieve a top 4 slot. Liverpool for 5th slot anyone?
