All the reaction from the players after the fourth day of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Fourth seed Elena Dementieva is full of praise for her opponent after being swept aside by world number 70 Melanie Oudin: "I think she's very talented. She was not afraid. She was playing very aggressively, really enjoying this atmosphere, the crowd support and really going for the winners. It's just the beginning, but it looks like she has a good future."
Oudin, the third highest ranked American after the Williams sisters, on following up her Wimbledon win over Jelena Jankovic with the victory over Dementieva: "I think that it's really cool to be called the third-best American behind the Williams sisters. Its just incredible, I've watched them since I was a little girl. They've been like my idols. I'm really proud to be the third-best American. I think Wimbledon helped me because I hadn't played on Arthur Ashe (Stadium) before. Elena was the highest ranked player I've ever played, so it was a big deal today. I think it means more to me (than the Jankovic win) because this is the US Open. I had the whole crowd cheering for me, so much support. The whole thing was just amazing. I can't believe I won."
World number one Dinara Safina narrowly survives a second round clash with 67th-ranked German Kristina Barrois: "I'm happy that I made it through again. There were so many ups and downs, I am just relieved. I know I'm not playing my best but I'm still fighting. Nobody will take it (the world number one ranking away from me. There are so many players who won a Grand Slam and where they are now? Nowhere. Some of the players you don't even know that they won a Grand Slam. You look and say like, 'Oh, my gosh, she won?' But number one will always stay there. The people will remember you by number one, not by winning a Grand Slam."
Jelena Jankovic reflects on her loss to Yaroslava Shvedova, through a WTA Tour representative after opting not to hold the traditional post-match press conference: "I wasn't really on the court. My grandmother died, and I was very close to her. I was very sad and emotionally I was really not on court. I really tried my best to be there and to try to play but it was really hard. You could see I was not happy on the court. I was really suffering. I tried to think about my tennis but I felt like I was so late and so slow. You know, I couldn't even watch the ball. When you are playing a player like that... they play against a top seed and they're serving 120 miles per hour, they're hitting every shot. They're really not thinking out there. They're just playing freely because they have nothing to lose. That was the case today with her. There are more important things in life than tennis. When you think about it, this is just a small event compared to somebody in your family who dies."
Yaroslava Shvedova sends out a warning to the top women's seeds after defeating Jankovic: "It's like this year, I see how many players are doing this. Like big changing starts now. Like Oudin. After my match, I came in the locker room, she was preparing I think for doubles, and I told her, 'You inspired me.' I was watching her game, waiting for my match. I said, 'Thanks, you inspire me. We are good girls today.' They better watch out. We are coming."
Former champion Maria Sharapova refuses to be drawn on her potentially easier half of the daw: "Just because other people are struggling doesn't make me a bigger contender. I'm a contender when I'm in the draw. That's the way I look at it. I play one match at a time. I mean, other people's struggles don't make my draw or anything else in my path to a Grand Slam easier. In the times when she (Oudin) could have made errors, she came up with some really good shots. I've got a tough round ahead of me. I'm sure she's going to swing and have nothing to lose, which she doesn't. But I'm looking forward to that."
World number four Novak Djokovic says he is ready to mount a challenge for the US Open title: "Physically I feel great. I feel ready. I feel confident on the court, mentally motivated and willing to do more. I just have a big desire to perform good and to win the matches. I'll have to say there were some moments in today's match that I have been tested. I didn't convert my break balls that great. I had over 15 break balls and I didn't use that many. So that's something that was a little bit frustrating."
Andy Roddick on his upcoming third round clash with John Isner: "John has been playing a lot better and it's going to be a completely different match-up. It will come down to a couple of points here and there."
Tommy Haas on his intriguing third-round clash with Fernando Verdasco: "He's obviously a very tough competitor and he's been playing extremely well. It's going to be a tough one. I look forward to that. I will try and play my best and play smart that day."
Sam Querrey on the chances of a home win: "I think we've got a shot. We've got Andy (Roddick) who has been in the top 10 for almost 10 years. Hopefully James (Blake) can get back up there. Hopefully Mardy (Fish) can get healthy. I'm climbing up the rankings. John Isner is doing really well. Jesse Levine is in the second round. Jesse Witten is in the third round. There's a big group of us here. I think we can make it like it once was in the '90s."
Indian Somdev Devvarman after his four sets loss to 23rd seed Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany: "It was my fourth slam attempt and the first one that I actually qualified for and that's a breakthrough in some ways. Actually coming through winning a match and giving a good fight to Philipp. I had chances. He played better and came out and won today but I still know that I had chances and that is good. Just having that experience, and having these matches on my back now is something I can draw from when I play in the future. Hopefully I can use this experience to get better."

scape goat scape goat......jelena....when you think that your family is more important than other things you supposed to have withdrawn in that tournament because you know that you will not do good...because you are sad or whatever.... but yet you fight up to the end hoping that you will tackle that fearless opponent...you really have that over confident thing in your head thinking that you are that good and you can overcome everything...now tht you failed you enter your family scene who=s in deep sorrow becoz you are blah blah blah to you grandma...common...give compliment and say...she is a fast rising teenager that soon to be watched...actually she is very good and really you are like a lower rank that night and could not answer her blistering returns....
I just hate your attitude...you can leave that primitive attitude in your place in... where???..yugoslavia(?) and embrace a global character...
Refering to Dinara's comment : Is she refering to Svetlana? What a statement to make.
