Hopkins, Jones announce fights
Eurosport - Sat, 04 Sep 09:00:00 2010
Future Boxing Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins will challenge Jean Pascal for the Canadian’s WBC light-heavyweight crown on December 18.
"We have an agreement in principle and I’m just awaiting the paper work to finalize," said Pascal’s promoter Yvon Michel.
The fight is expected to take place in Quebec City.
Hopkins's one-time rival and former multiple weight world champion Roy Jones Jr (pictured with Hopkins) will fight Danny Santiago in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida on October 7.
An official announcement for the venue will take place next week.
Jones Jr, 41, has a record of 54-7-(40).

Roy Jones, c'mon just give it up now. His record is already damaged by continuing, does he really need the money now? My feeling is he either could have jumped ship after a fluke win over Antonio Tarver, or, failing that, left with his pride intact after that shock 2nd round KO loss to Tarver.
As for Bernard Hopkins, its true he's still a tough, savvy old warrior, but even he should call father time on his career; he's got very little to prove now.
Hopkins is in great shape i think he has a great chance of winning,i`d love to see B-Hop take the belt and maybe defend it once or twice then call it a day,the guy is a showman,as for Jones he gave his all in his last fight but Father Time caught up with the legend a long time ago,he really should retire before he gets hurt.
TRACEY, you say a bad loss or utter humiliation will signal the end for Jones, did you see his last few fights?
Both fights to be held at the mildly retarded old age home for washups and hasbeens maybe they should place a Ruiz-Holyfeild bout and James Toney v MIke Tyson on at the same time
Roy Jones jr should retire..he was one of the greatest fighters of alltime and one of my favourites but,in recent years he's been beaten by people he would've destroyed in his prime i.e joe calzaghe....he should stop and reflect on what has been one of the most remarkable careers in boxing..Jones is a legend but,i wish he would retire.
Are they for real?
They have nothing left to prove.
These guys wanna get injured man...
Hi Lance
Is this your real name, or is it Mark, by any chance. You remind me of someone I used to know
A fighter never never retires. the body may not be as tuned and honed as what it once was, but the the drive, thought of doing battle never wains. It reconciling the two that most fighters have most difficulty. What does Roy Jones do in retirement? There never going to a subsitute for doing battle, the comoradory in the gym, companionship, amongst true friends. Boxing is life, for Roy Jones.
Only he will know when the time is right. Unfortuately, like so many boxers and champions preceding him, a bad loss or, utter humilation by young, hungery fighter is the generally final curtain call for once great warriors.
Right Chris, Roy Jones is a shadow of himself, he should quit and look back on an astonishing career. Hopkins, however, seems to get better with age. He lives the life and takes his trade seriously. He is cunning and tough, and what age has taken from him, he has replaced with experience. He is justified in taking this match because he can win. But sooner or later, he will visit the well once too often. The clock ticks for us all.
Time has been good to Hopkins, but why oh why does Jones Jr Keep going? A real shame of a once great fighter.
i know it has nothing to do with story but bob arums son, john has fallen to his death whilst climbing, espn news usa
oops...disregard my last comment
what a rubbish headline, this story has got nothing to do with Jones Jr
I think Hopkins could win this fight and then immediately retire, even though he's ducked Dawson for so long! And also, I'm really sad for Ryan Rhodes. He is a genuinely decent, hard-working person with an honest work ethic. It would have been fantastic for him to have worked do hard to get this opportunity and I only hope he gets another chance soon. Also sad to see Barker out of action. Here was the biggest domestic fight since Haye v Maccarinelli in my eyes and it was a genuine 50-50 fight, though I think Macklin is the better boxer and of a World Class calibre. And as for the next Prizefighter event, I wonder if David Haye would be interested!? If not, I'd happily see Chisora, Fury or McDermott be given the wildcard. Or maybe Enzo Maccarinelli could move up for one night only? Thoughts?
