Hearts Hit Back For Derby Draw

Sun 04 Nov, 08:09 PM

Hibernian and Hearts had to settle for a share of the spoils as a thrilling Edinburgh derby ended 1-1 at Easter Road.

An own-goal from Hearts skipper Christophe Berra under pressure from opposite number Rob Jones gave the home side a half-time lead but Christian Nade's equaliser 50 seconds after the restart allowed Hearts to peg back their city rivals.

Both teams had chances to find a winner as the second period wore on but Steven Fletcher's close-range header was disallowed because of a push to deny Hibs all three points.

After the match Hibernian manager John Collins said his side could have been more clinical.

"I thought in the first half we were absolutely magnificent. We passed the ball superbly, we dominated the game and went in 1-0 up and we should have been four goals in front," Collins said.

"We wanted three points but we'll take the point. The most important thing is the performance - I always look for the performance.

"Managers often say the be-all and end-all is the result but for me it's not, it's always the performance as well. Our first half performance, I thought we were absolutely different class for a derby game. You'd never have believed that was a derby game the way we passed it about."

Meanwhile Hearts assistant head coach Stephen Frail believed the outcome was about right.

He said: "I was quite pleased just to go in 1-0 down at half-time, but in the second half we got in about them, got in their face more, and probably created the better chances.

"We pushed to try to get the winner but unfortunately it didn't come. Maybe the draw was about the fair result."
