Alex Ferguson branded the referee's decision to book Darren Fletcher for diving and not award a penalty during the 3-3 draw with CSKA Moscow as the "worst ever".
Manchester United 3 - 3 CSKA Moscow
United manager Alex Ferguson: "I can't believe it. I can't believe the decision. It's one of the worst I've seen in my lifetime. You can't appeal a yellow card. I can understand in domestic football that it could get lost in the system. But in European football it is crucial because, later in the tournament, to miss a really important game because of that is unfair. They should look at that but they won't. I cannot believe the decision (of the referee). Okay, it is human error, but it was one of the worst in my lifetime."
Atletico Madrid 2 - 2 Chelsea
Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores: " It was a difficult match, Atletico played very well but we had very good direction after our first goal. The players have been under a lot of pressure this week and this was an important result that sets us up for the next game."
Milan 1 - 1 Real Madrid
Milan coach Leonardo: "(on the dipsute penalty) These things happen. I always believe in the good intentions of the referee. It seemed to me it was a normal goal while for the penalty you could say that it was right to give it. We are getting better, each game we improve a bit."
Real coach Manuel Pellegrini: "We had a lot of control of the game but second half it was a bit more complicated. At the end there were a couple of chances to get the three points which we would have deserved."
Marseille 6 - 1 Zurich
Marseille coach Didier Deschamps: "We must enjoy such a moment. It's a score you don't see very often in a Champions League match even if the game was more difficult than the result could mislead to believe."
Zurich coach Bernard Challandes: "I'm frustrated because the result is not a fair reflection of the reality of the game. Marseille's first two goals should have been disallowed for offside."
Bayern Munich 0 - 2 Bordeaux
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal: "In a top game you have to score and we did not have any luck tonight. We were not lucky but also not good enough but we are still not eliminated. We still have a small chance."
Maccabi Haifa 0 - 1 Juventus
Haifa coach Elisha Levy: "We're very disappointed. Clearly, in the first half we didn't play as well as in our other games. Juve pegged us back and did not allow us to do the things we wanted to do."
Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara: " I am pleased that we won, the players played thoughtfully and responsibly, it wasn't only a case of them using their feet. Our disappointment at drawing at home to Bordeaux has passed."
Besiktas 0 - 3 Wolfsburg
Besiktas coach Mustafa Denizli: "Despite all our efforts this evening we weren't successful in creating opportunities. There is a lack of confidence in the team this year and we are having difficulty in finding the net."
APOEL Nicosia 0 - 1 Porto
APOEL coach Ivan Jovanovic: " They had more clear chances for goals and they deserved to win. We tried to play more attacking football than in the first game (last month) and Porto took advantage of the open space."
Porto coach Jesualdo Ferreira: "It was not an easy win, we could have scored more goals."

it is obvious that alex is finding it hard lately to accept that his team are not playing well or did not play well. stop putting blames on officials, now tell me how can AZ Akmaar come out tommorow to say they were robbed by officials against Arsenal????

on the penalty decision it was blatantly a penalty,Blatter and his fogies would do better employing and training referees to fifa (standards). Decisions like that cause untold pressure on teams and player alike, the yellow card card if poss should be looked at and the ref sanctioned. ps Arsenal fan but decisions like that are very poor.
At least SAF is being consistant this season. Its all the refs that are getting it.
Its a sign of the beginning of the end for him i am afraid. He cant get the best out of his players anymore. So he is looking for the next best thing to blame, very sad!
From a Sheffield Referee.
ntrguitarschool - not sure what law school you attended but the last time i checked, talking about someone's performance & analysing (and being critical about it) and then not being punished for it was not the equivalent of murdering someone and getting away with it!
Correct me if i'm wrong! :)
Ferguson, don't blame the REF,your team already qualified to the knockout stage. And your team was lucky to score draw, thanks to Valencia. And your team were not good enough.
While I,m not that bothered that utd did,nt get the penalty in last nights game, I have to agree with SAF, Fletcher should never have been booked. I did,nt think it was a stonewall penalty,(though there was contact and we have all seen them given for less). My reading of it was that Fletcher tried to make absolutely sure that the ref was going to see it as a penalty and overdid the going down bit just a tad. I think the ref concentrated more on his theatrics than the actual offense. On a more serious note, I have lots of friends who are utd supporters and think they should be a little bit more honest regarding their club.I keep hearing how great the squad is and how much better it is than all the other clubs in the prem. The truth is, utd have lost two key players recently and it has undeniably taken the heart out of the team and they are struggling big time.I have no idea if they will or will not win anything this season, but I will say right now, if they do, it will be a bloody big achievement unless they strengthen. Right now, they are about as ordinary a team as you can get and do not have the strength in depth their fans think they have.
AF is old enough to understand that over a season, including league games, cup games and European games that these decisions even themselves out, its actually the law of averages because most games there is a poor, misjudged referee decision. It also happens to every club in every league in the world so its very well averaged based on referee misjudgments in the EPL, SPL, Championship, Div 123 etc. Very basic and very silly of AF to keep complaining about the ref's, unless of course he is drunk and then its natural.
Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He is eight years older than me, lol. We met at __Agelessmatch @ c o m__a nice and free place for Younger Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to interact with each other. Maybe you wanna check out or tell your friends.
Why is it Man U so called fans can never see passed their own noses, it was a dive and any self respecting football supporter would say so too. we have to stamp out divers in this game otherwise it's a down hill slope, what next i ask????
If Fletcher had dived & won a penalty then UEFA would be looking into it and banning him for 3-4 games (like they did with Eduardo). So why can't they do the reverse when someone is innocent of diving? Even the man utd haters (liverpool fans) have to admit that the decision to book Fletcher was a ridiculous one! It's not just a man utd thing, if a player is going to end up missing a quater final, semi or the final (as fletcher did last year) for a bad reffing decision then that's not really good for football! I would have liked to see what uefa would have done if Messi & Ronaldo had been incorrectly suspended for the Champs lge final last year? I think they may have over turned those cos they were the big-pull players. Whereas fletcher & abidal aren't the big attractions so they couldn't be bothered to look into it. Both would have (and should have) played in the final last year.
