Thailand's top players will feast on free burgers as part of a three-year sponsorship deal with American fast food giant McDonald's.

McDonald's will provide 25 million baht (£452,617) for the Football Association of Thailand and will offer five million baht in products in exchange for shirt sponsorship for the next three years, starting this month.

"This will be a great help towards our efforts to reach the 2014 World Cup finals," FAT president Worawi Makudi told Reuters.

"This funding will help develop our game, especially youth football, and all the players, junior and senior, will get to enjoy the food too," he added.

Thailand's national team, which is currently 110th in the FIFA rankings, signed a five-year kit sponsorship deal with US sports giant Nike in 2007 for an undisclosed figure.

The team has never qualified for the World Cup finals and is now being coached by former England and Manchester United captain Bryan Robson.

  2. How is a super fat football team going to be able to play competitive football, McDonald's has got to be the last sponsor for a physical activity, bad health through obesity is just not sports orientated.

  6. Best way to beat the opposing team Supper size it.
Best way to beat ordinary people sell things by quantity compaired to imperial compaired to metric weights. Its a shame that the metrification board was abolished before it completed its job.
Best way to beat political opposition, such as the 450 year old Lewes bonfire where cardianals, popes, presidents, and priministers are burnt, get the local council to endorse it.
Best way to beat Afganistan impose our style democracy. Will do for them what Alexander the Great through to USSR never managed.

I can't post my website with more chat but search my name you should find it.

  7. Oh god Mcdonalds is disgusting I wouldn't even eat there if it was the last bit of food on earth. Guess Thailand really need Mcdonalds to get into the World Cup but I doubt that will happen if they're forever eating their free Mcdonalds.

  11. In next few years if the new FAT unfit players stand across the goals no ball will get past... What a cunning plan.
Perhaps the rubbish burger and co will now sponsor the English Sporting games. As most people encorage their kids to visit these fantastic " restrurants" This will bring more children into sport. Perhaps the future world champs at darts and bowling. Why can't fishing become a sport to improve our fitness, its outside and burgers can be eaten as you fish.
What next... We will be opening a big Mac at NHS hospitals!!........but perhaps thats already happened?

I think the reality of the situation is..... Other than Thailands Transexual, Transgender, Homosexual, etc... problem. Both Mc Donalds and that football team need more regognition; yet neither of them are going to get that, so MC Donadls are trying to advertise through that team and that Team are trying to be known through Mc Donalds. basically they both need each other lol. The free food sounds nice though!
