Carter was a doubt after injuring himself in last weekend's 32-19 win over Australia in Tokyo but is clear to take his place at the Millennium Stadium.

Coach Graham Henry announced his team in Cardiff and made six changes - two of them enforced by suspension - and gives a debut to winger Zac Guildford.

Guildford, 20, who replaces banned Sitiveni Sivivatu, was one of the stand-out players in last year's under-20 World Championship and he has continued that form with a prolific try-scoring season for Hawke's Bay.

Wyatt Crockett starts in the front row in place of Tony Woodcock, who is also serving a one-game suspension from the Tokyo game.

Brendan Leonard starts at scrumhalf, with Jimmy Cowan dropping to the bench. Jason Eaton comes in at lock alongside Brad Thorn wile Jerome Kaino and Kieran Read are drafted into the back row.

New Zealand have not lost to Wales since 1953 - a run of 20 straight wins. After kicking off their tour against them the All Blacks will also play Italy, England and France.

  1. Unlucky for Mark Delany , I would rather he get a chance than wobbly Donaldson . I do hope Henry plays him at some stage otherwise what point was the of him coming on the tour other than injury cover , he needs GAME TIME . Hopefully he will get a run out againts Italy.

  3. Wales are a step behind the AB's in terms of playing test match rugby for the last two months , coming off the Tri-Nations and the test match in Tokyo so thay have more rugby under there belt and more cohesion which is why Henry felt he could include other players in the team , not sure how many test friendlies wales have played (if any)

  4. Hey Moggie 2727,

    Kiwi living in London since 2003
    Yeah some valid points. I've been to Welsh test every year since 2003....Not going ot Cardiff this year and GUTTED already!
    Great test venue and just love it all!
    Kaino -good development working progress
    Same with Eaton-Think that is eye toward long term stability in the locks
    McAllister still struggling I think to get back up to speed, since his Bangers and mash days at Sale
    Mulliaina-Yep definately looking back at his best
    Rococoko had to be dropped-His form was VERY poor
    Brad Thorn missed out on been a great All Black by about 5 years to many years in League

    Should be a good match-Best of luck Taff...
    Hoping it 56 years continuing!

  5. as a proud south african i think wales will fall to new zealand, watching n.z last week against australia was like watching an ol n.z team they are on the rise from their slump in the tri-nations and carry momentum into this weekend, the team henry has name is a strong team, moggie2727 kaino is a strong powerful runner with the ball and even better in defence, jason eaton is a prolific lineout jumper, and brendon leonard an jimmy cowan are both dynamite at scrum half, zac guildford may not have played a test yet but is a class act in any game he plays in, as for brad thorn the man maybe 34 but he is a work horse on the field, in and around the ruck and is still 1 of the most feared forwards in the world to date, and as for the front row, their never is a weak n.z front row wales should count their lucky stars they aren't playing south africa. nz have lost tony woodcock the best loose head prop in world rugby but that wont mean that wales will push them over in the scrums

  6. as a welshman going to the match, this is both awesome and terrible news
    good news;
    hes picked kaino instead of thomson, which is great
    eaton instead of donnelly, who won all their lineout ball v wallabies
    leonard instead of cowan, who is an absolute liabilty
    no Mcallister on the bench
    hes persisting with muliaina, when hes dead-weight livin on past glory
    he didnt bring rococoko, so guildford is untested at this level
    brad thron is 34 and gettin more cumbersome every match
    and the front row is untried to say the least
    bad news;
    picked read over rodney so'oialo, future all black captain
    carter is fit, as hes still the best 10 in the world by a country mile
    and of course, king of the ruck, Mr McCaw is still the most valuable player in the world
    the game is mpre balanced than it has been in years, but can wales stop thinkin of the all blacks as demi-gods?.. imo, no, but in 5 days we'll know!
