Pirelli has ruled out replacing Bridgestone as Formula One tyre supplier from 2011.

Bridgestone Corp, the sole supplier since 2007, announced on Monday it would not renew its contract after the end of the 2010 season.

Michelin withdrew after the 2006 season.

"Pirelli's previous position on F1 hasn't changed. Pirelli prefers to develop tyres for racing that will also be used on the road. Pirelli sponsors Superbike, World Rally Championship and GT2," a spokeswoman said.

  1. It could be considered that all teams pay tyre manufacturers a fee for supplying tyres to them.
It cant be that much for them if they are paying around 5 hundred pounds for one wheel nut and it would bring F1 a bit closer to car ownership experience that Fia want us to believe!

  5. @sp00k007, technically Michelin -did- withdraw. You are right in that the powers-that-be made the decision to change to a single tyre manufacturer, but Michelin withdrew from the sport a season earlier than the implementation of the said rule change.

  6. Someone needs to get their reporting facts straight "Michelin withdrew in 2006" NO THEY DID NOT WITHDRAW. The powers that be in F1 decided they would be using one tyre manufacturer from 2007 and that manufacturer would be Bridgestone. Michelin were ousted by the people who run F1 as they decided we did not need competition between tyre manufacturers. That looks such a silly idea now as from 2011 F1 cars will have no tyres and they will need to build hovercars instead, now that's interesting.

  7. In a way right. Tyre developed for F1 cannot be used on the road anyway. Start using tyres that can be used on the road by super cars at least.

Pirelli participation policy makes sense. Develop tyres that can both used in motorsports and on the road. Now I understand by Pirelli tyre is so good on the road yet at affordable prices.

  8. #22: edward,

No bridgestone I don't think bridgestone paid to supplies tyres. Otherwise it will be money making and they would have stayed on. Participating in F1 is spending money, and a lot of money. The only advantage is your brand name is exposed globally.
