Storrie charged with tax evasion

Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie was formally charged with tax evasion on Wednesday.

Prosecutors accused him of concealing a signing-on fee for Amdy Faye by paying it into the midfielder's bank account.

Storrie will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on November 16, a spokesman for HM Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office (RCPO) said.

The charge relates to the transfer of midfielder Faye from Auxerre to Portsmouth for £1.5 million in August 2003.

It was alleged that Faye was paid a £250,000 signing-on fee on which tax and national insurance was not paid.

The charge alleges Storrie cheated the "public revenue" between July 1 2003, and August 12 2005.

It claimed the money was paid into the account of agent Willie McKay, who has also been questioned by police.

Storrie vowed to clear his name two weeks ago when he was informed of the decision to prosecute him.

He issued a statement insisting he will defend himself in the "strongest possible terms" and is confident he will be exonerated.

Mr Storrie has been on bail since being arrested in November 2007 on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.

  1. To Mart. Although not a big fan off Redknapp, what with him dumping on us twice, i have to say the bloke has been questioned time and time again reference transfer etc and to date nothing has been found that incriminates him. I think its about time that people push aside the dodgy dealer circus and see harry for what he is a bloody good manager. Time and time again he has shown his ability, with the slight hiccup at scumhampton (there's no helping some though) and still people knock him. Tottenham would be revelling in the Championship now if it weren't for Harry and look at the state of Pompey without him there. Every season he pulls of amazing deals what with free players and loan signings but all because he had to. Players have come from all over the place to play for him not because of the clubs he manages but for who he is and how good he is.

  2. Who was chairman then, who fell out with Harry then, I think PS is OK at least he didn't do a runner, didn't MR R have some questions on transfers whilst at WHU, who signed the cheque and who asked the signatory to sign it, its all very interesting and I would think that someone will not be sending Christamas cards to "colleagues" this year as the truth comes out I think it will open a few cans of worms...
I also have an idea that HMRC are doing this to use as a tin opener.. hey this is better than the X Factor. PLAY UP POMPEY
