Flynn Earns Seasiders Late Point

Tue 04 Dec, 12:15 AM

A late goal from substitute Michael Flynn earned Blackpool a fortuitous 1-1 draw from their Coca-Cola Championship clash with fellow survival hopefuls Scunthorpe at Glanford Park.

Flynn crashed Keigan Parker's cut-back past a stranded Joe Murphy in the 87th minute to cancel out Andy Butler's 19th minute opener and add further controversy to the sending off of home defender Kelly Youga.

Referee Andy D'Urso handed Youga a straight red card for his seemingly harmless 71st minute foul on Stephen Crainey. It was his second dismissal in the last six days after he saw red at Coventry last Tuesday.

But, despite the setback, Nigel Adkins' men had seemed set for a first win in eight games until Flynn's late contribution.

Earlier, Butler had given the home side the lead with his first goal of the season, although it did not come without a large slice of luck.

He broke the deadlock when his strike ballooned off the hand of Paul Rachubka and narrowly crossed the line before the goalkeeper could recover and clear.

The incident was harsh on the former Manchester United stopper, who excelled throughout, with fine saves from Martin Paterson and Jack Cork particular highlights.
