A weekly look at the domestic fortunes of the British clubs' Champions League adversaries. Celtic face Milan this Tuesday, while the rest must wait a further week before playing their final group stage game.
GROUP A - Marseille (who play Liverpool)
There is almost no point in considering Marseille's usually abject domestic form when preparing for a crucial European tie, but one does not know what to make of the 1-1 draw at Lille this weekend. Mamadou Niang continued his good form by scoring his fifth goal in three matches, cancelling out Patrick Kluivert's opener. Liverpool have to win this match at Stade Velodrome to qualify for the knockout stages.
Besiktas 1-1 Rizespor
Benfica 0-1 Porto
---
GROUP B - Valencia (who play Chelsea)
Los Che are having what is known in the trade as a "shocker". Replacing Quique Sanchez Flores with Ronald Koeman after a sticky patch of form has, if anything, made things worse, a 3-0 home defeat to Athletic Club the most recent humiliation. Chelsea are already through and Valencia can hope for UEFA Cup football at best in what is effectively a dead rubber. All eyes will be on Schalke and Norwegian minnows Rosenborg.
Schalke 1-0 Bochum
Rosenborg - no game, Norway currently in close-season
---
GROUP D - Milan (who play Celtic)
What is it with Milan in Serie A? Undoubtedly one of the top sides in Europe, at home they can't even buy a win (ahem) and continued their bizarre winless domestic streak at the San Siro with an admittedly entertaining goalless draw against Juventus. Celtic can afford to lose but only if Shakhtar fail to beat Benfica; they will be aiming for at least a point from the already-qualified Rossoneri.
Benfica 0-1 Porto
Shakhtar Donetsk play Zorya on Monday
---
GROUP E - Lyon (who play Rangers)
Lyon handed out a 5-0 spanking to Strasbourg in an ominous warning to Walter Smith's men, who need a point at Ibrox to ensure progress to the next round. Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom bagged a brace, with Francois Clerc, Karim Benzema and Juninho also on target.
Espanyol 1-1 Barcelona
Stuttgart 1-2 Dortmund
---
GROUP F - Roma (who play Manchester United)
Roma creaked to a 2-1 home win over nine-man Udinese on Sunday, a result that was not exactly convincing but holds them in good stead for next week as it allowed them to continue to rest talismanic striker Francesco Totti and rehabilitate Rodrigo Taddei from injury, the Brazilian winger getting on the scoresheet in the process.
Dynamo Kiev 5-2 Chernomorets Odessa
Sporting Lisbon 1-1 Leiria
---
GROUP H - Steaua Bucharest (who play Arsenal)
Steaua eased to a 2-0 away win over Jiul Petrosani in the Romanian top flight at the weekend, consolidating second place behind local rivals Dinamo. Arsenal and Sevilla are already through and Steaua confirmed as bottom in group H so these matches are effectively dead rubbers save for the battle for top spot.
Slavia Prague 1-1 FK Mlada Boleslav
Almeria 1-0 Sevilla
