Celtic will play goalkeeper Artur Boruc against Milan in their crucial Champions League clash on Tuesday despite fears that he needs a knee operation.

The Poland goalkeeper will have a scan after the San Siro match to assess whether the joint should be operated on.

Celtic are still missing defenders Lee Naylor (calf), John Kennedy (knee), Mark Wilson (knee) and Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe (Achilles), while key midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura (knee) is also out.

Gordon Strachan's men need only a point to earn a place in the knock-out stages of the competition, with a draw in this final match also putting the Serie A outfit, already qualified, top of Group D.

Shakhtar Donetsk take on Benfica at the same time, and if the Ukrainians fail to win Celtic will be through regardless of events in Milan. If Shakhtar win and Celtic lose, they will qualify ahead of the Scots on the head-to-head rule.

Milan are waiting on the fitness of Brazilian striker Ronaldo after he injured his calf while warming up before the last European clash against Benfica.

Ronaldo did not play in the Rossoneri's goalless stalemate with Juventus at the weekend.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has said Filippo Inzaghi will play some part although Alberto Gilardino may start up front instead.

In recognition of the Ballon d'Or award he won at the weekend, Kaka could be handed the captain's armband ahead of Massimo Ambrosini.
