How it works

We tot up the marks out of 10 awarded in five national newspapers - Sun, Mirror, Mail, Times and Guardian - to reach a total out of 50. The top player in each position will be rewarded with a spot in the team of the week, while the worst scorers will be named and shamed in our Flops XI.

Team of the Week

Three of Arsene Wenger's French contingent, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Mathieu Flamini, are in this week's Super XI as well as the "Minsk Maradona" Alex Hleb after Arsenal's display of liquid football at Aston Villa. However a man who didn't quite make the cut with Arsenal boss Wenger, David Bentley, is the player of the weekend following his two-goal display for Blackburn against Newcastle. Steven Gerrard, Joleon Lescott and Joe Cole show their usual impressive non-international form, while Fernando Torres leads the line.

Juande Ramos will be spending his Monday looking at Ledley King's medical status and watching videos of Liga defenders after Younes Kaboul did his latest impression of the new Titus Bramble, although the Wigan man just avoids the ignominy of featuring in this team despite his air-shot attempted clearance against Manchester City.
