Astana team-mates Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador have ridden together for the first time since seven-times Tour de France champion Armstrong announced his comeback from retirement.
Tensions arose within Astana when the American, who won the Tour from 1999 to 2005, decided to return from a three-year break in September and join the team managed by his mentor Johann Bruyneel.
Spaniard Contador, who won the Tour in 2007 and claimed a Giro/Vuelta double this year, said at the time he would consider leaving the team if he was not assured of a leader place in the Kazakh-funded squad.
However the pair rode alongside each other on Wednesday, the fourth day of a one-week training camp in the Canary Island of Tenerife, according to team spokesman Philippe Maertens.
Contador only started training on Tuesday after recovering from nose surgery.
Both men will take part in the Tour de France next year, with Bruyneel having insisted the team would eventually work for "the best rider".

Remember that at Lance's age, he needs longer build ups to race fitness. Gone are the days of just a Tour of Murcia, Dauphine and then TdF. So we see his earliest ever training camp (in December).
'
And the Giro will likely be a long, slow build up- no fireworks. Lull his rivals into a fall sense of security (and say that "Contador is the best").
'
TdF prologue will see him at peak.
I'm a big lance fan , but not naive enough to think that all is not above board regarding epo etc, but remember he is a freak of nature ,ie well above the average pro in terms of heart lungs etc. Here's how I see it playing out for the year : Lance will do as he says, ie take part in the various tours, classics etc , maybe even win a stage or time trial , but when it comes to the Giro he'll still be conditioning and won't be able to challenge, so its Contadors to lose , but when its time for the tour he'll be as ready as he can be and a Lemond Hinault situation may arise . Brunyeel will be rubbing his hands with glee .
I just hope Cadel Evans gets pushed further down gc and its a more exciting tour than last years bore .
Lance riding the Giro reminds me of Ullrich racing it in 2006 and winning the last time trial only to implicated in Puerto later that year... I wonder if Lance will turn in more pedestrian performances this year or if he'll dominate! We'll see!
i am a fan of both lance and AC and i sant wait for the tour. I do feel AC will be stronger especialy as Lance is doing a lot more racing this year such as the giro which he did not use to do
i think lances come back has scared a few riders who think that they are worth all that they get they might be in for a shock he is no fool and he wont enter to finish second
I agree bring back Jan and lets have a real battle!
I think goin for both the Giro and the Tour might be a litte to much, if he uses the Giro just as a warm up i think AC will have a race on his hands in the tour
May the best man win!!!!
I am a Lance fan and I am glad he is back. If he makes it to the start of Giro and TDF then he will be one of the favorites...
GO LANCE!!!
For those who think three years out of the sport is a hinderance, remember Mohammed Ali, who returned after three and a half years to reclaim the heavyweight title, and more recently Vitali Klitschko, who did the same thing. It can be done, and it will bring some of the excitement back to the tour - especially as there will be a rivalry with last year's winner, Contador. Two top riders on the same team - it happened in 1987, when Steven Roache beat Roberto Visentini in the Giro, then went on to win the Tour and the world championships.
It wil be The Tour Too Far for Lance
Well, hopefully Lance won't be able to dominate like before, it took some of the excitement away, like watching a thriller when somebody has told you the ending. I lost some interest in the last couple of tours he rode once the outcome became predictable. Far more exciting when the top contenders are all in with a shout down to the wire.
Hmmm… it's so obvious that Contador will be the strongest rider in Astana. My biggest fear is that, because of Lance's age and absence from professional racing, there will be SO much suspicion should he beat Alberto.
I just hope next year's TDF won't become the 'Lance Armstrong Show' and that he treats it with the respect it deserves.
Armstrong was never really trying to win any other races, he and the whole team were focused on the Tour alone. As for him coming back, there hasn't been this much interest in cycling for a long time. I just hope that the riders can be clean this year. Wishful thinking...
If Lance couldn't ride the Giro and Tour at the peak of his powers why does anyone think he'll be able to do it now? Don't get me wrong, I've always been a huge Lance fan but this whole comeback just doesn't feel right. As far as beating Contador...well, he can dream can't he.
I have never been a big fan of Lance...but I hope he rips Alberto a new hole during the TdF!
all we need is big jan to come back
lance all the way, vive le lance vive le tour
