After winning the Formula One world championship, Hamilton said he wanted to "put something back" into Britain and Brown is planning to take up the offer.

The Prime Minster reportedly wants the McLaren driver to lead a road accident campaign aimed at teenage drivers, as well as helping to promote sport to the young.

Despite recent criticism for becoming a tax exile in Switzerland, Hamilton hasn also been named on a Government list of 20 Afro-Caribbean men who can serve as role models for black teenagers.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears said at the launch of the list: "The election of Barack Obama and Lewis Hamilton's recent success is a powerful signal to young people that they can achieve.

"But for many they will still be the men on the telly, removed from their day-to-day lives, whose achievements exist in a world beyond theirs.

"The role modelling programme was about finding a way of making a more relevant connection; nurturing ambitious, realistic aspirations by showing young black men that they can achieve in any and every walk of life they can imagine.

"That is why I am delighted by the calibre and diversity of the role models that have put themselves forward. Each of these men has faced challenges and barriers, but through skill, determination and hard work they have succeeded.

"Now they have a chance to tell their stories and show that success and recognition are there for the taking - if only young people reach for them."

  9. mouronroute: You nearly got it right, with the exception of the whole Ilmor Engineering part of it. The original company was simply called Ilmor and not Ilmor Engineering. It was Ilmor that Mercedes purchased. Ilmor Engineering did not come about until 2005, when (following Morgan's death) Illien repurchased the Special Projects branch of the now Mercedes owned company and renamed it Ilmor Engineering. Run completely independently of Mercedes, Ilmor Engineering is owned by Illien and Penske and primarily works with Honda in America but did in 2007 have an input in MotoGP.

Hadn't realised until I looked on Google Earth as I just followed the directions my nephew gave me.
