Liverpool have revealed that the hamstring injury suffered by star striker Fernando Torres is worse than first feared.
Torres had been expected to be out of action for two weeks with the injury he suffered during the Champions League victory against Marseille at Anfield on November 26.
However, the Spaniard has now been told by specialists that he will be out for at least four weeks - although Liverpool are refusing to put a timescale on his return to action.
"We first said two to three weeks but do not want to put a time on it now," said Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
"He will come back when he is ready. We will not rush him back.
"We want to resolve this problem once and for all and we will make sure we do that."
Torres has already missed five weeks of the campaign with a similar complaint, although the Reds have coped superbly in his previous absences, recording victories over Manchester United and Chelsea.
It is the fifth hamstring injury Torres has suffered in the 16 months since his arrival at Anfield from Atletico Madrid, having been hit by three similar injuries on international duty and two now with his club.
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League but have drawn their last two home games without scoring a goal, with new signing Robbie Keane still finding his form since his £20 million move from Tottenham in the summer.

Keane works his @#$% off every game, he'll find his form soon.
if liverpool draw again i will like to say they can't reach the goal keane isn;t finding his form yet ngogg isn't not a good player and babel play in the wing and torres out then we must buy a striker like aguero fabiano benzema
philip s you would have been out of the champions league if that cheat gerrard hadnt took a dive and its the champions league so why are looserpool in it did they win the liverpool sunday league
Not to worry, Liverpool deserved where it belongs, seeing from last Monday performanced......lolz!
Ahhhhhhh, Torres! don't worry much, enjoy the Christmas break (not in England though) we'll rely on Keane for goals..lol....
It always makes me laugh when continental players arrive in England to play that they get injured after 5 mins. I bet Torres is still on full sick pay. Good for him and his kind really. If players were paid by their appearances then maybe the injury list wouldn't be as long.....there's a thought
i think Liverpool should get world class striker like Aguero..why liverpool should keep Keane??he just like Shevchenko..so waste..he only can play for Barnsley or go back to Leeds..
If Liverpool can't win without Torres, then they are unworthy of being champions in anything as they simply rely on one strong player to score (although Torres is really one hell of a player). We shall soon see if they flounder or flourish, but most probably they will fail, given their form at games without Torres.
I think Arsenal is running on form: Eduardo is on training, plus others will recover and turn back soon. Liverpool will be demolished at Emirates, as gunners can't waste one more points!
Re spacewand comments, best ive read on here, rafa should give Babel and ngog a chance up front while torres is out injured, keane isnt a lone striker,he needs a partner.
being a spurs fan ive seen keane play, he needs a quick thinking forward who can move the ball quickly, then you see how good Keane is.good luck to you and hope the Pool finish top at the end of the season.
At this jucture I really hope Liverpool can win the Premier. I am a pesimist, however, and I am preparing myself for the my annual cringe as Man U or Chelsea swap cups about in April, May. Possitively Liverpool have been mediocre and got thirty odd pionts after 15 games and sit perched on top of league. Chelsea are shadowing us with some very impressive results, yet 1 piont less than Liverpool. On my optimistic days I have delusions that Liverpool will become effective at breaking down stubborn defensive teams, with greater consistency, and pick up their true form in there favoured second part of the season. I do wish players and supporters would just shut up away from the ground, because more often than not they over egg the pudding after a positive result, and end up with it all over our faces after "another" dissapiontment, a week or so later. That said with hope in my heart, through the wind and the rain Pool till I die.
Secondly not a fasionable view to air I know, but I have more in common with Man U supporters, Chelsea Supporters, Everton Supporters etc, and will not engage in these purile insults beween fans dividing the working classes. Love the banter side of it bud the adolecent four letter word insults demean us all. Usully "big boys actin ard" I reserve my hatred for them that deserve it, the Tories, and anything involving Jeremy Clarkson! I fear I am deluding myself here that some one gives a @#$% as to what I think.
LiverpoolFC lads, Please Hang tight in December! This is the most important month in the premier league for us! 20th December at the Emirates is the most important day.. It is must win! we can not afford draw nor defeat!
.............. Mark my words, if we reach Jan while we're at the top of the league that would be 75% of the work done!................Because we'll have Arsenal and Chelsea at anfield to beat! and only Manchester utd away! so Rafa don't do what have u done in last game againnnnnnn pleaseeeeeeeeee
I think Liverpool should get Karim Benzema a far better player...To win le Ballon d'Or you need a beautiful smile , being sexy is a plus and you will be fine...Forget Ribery , Benzema and on Top of that ...Luca toni..shame on you writers..
seriously i'm a die hard liverpool fan and i would love to have liverpool win the title! but now they r showing those dreaded form of last season... they need to buck up seriously
if liverpool supportes didnt talk so much @#$% i mite actually have some respect for the team..its way too early in the season to be boastin bout bein on top of the pl..and after mondays performance they wont be there for long
GUTTED tht torres is fookt but still happy we r top of the prem and still the most successful british team!! FACT!!!!!!! HA.................nearly getn caught by man u like!!!....oh bugga! :(
It amazes me that the fans of a team that did not win the PL for years and years are trying to bully everyone else because their team is top of the table at the 3rd of the season. Actually, this explains that :-) This is the best result they have got so they are making the most of it while it is still valid :-)
It was obvious from that bore on Monday that another striker is needed at the Pool and fast. Hamstring injuries go on and on, ask Giggs. Whilst I am a fan of no one I would not bet on Liverpool to maintain their position at the top unless Keane gets his act together and plays to their system. At the moment he and Kuyt are coming up well short.
all the scum man u fans hope you win nothink as you have cheat of the year realdiver
