Liverpool have revealed that the hamstring injury suffered by star striker Fernando Torres is worse than first feared.
Torres had been expected to be out of action for two weeks with the injury he suffered during the Champions League victory against Marseille at Anfield on November 26.
However, the Spaniard has now been told by specialists that he will be out for at least four weeks - although Liverpool are refusing to put a timescale on his return to action.
"We first said two to three weeks but do not want to put a time on it now," said Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
"He will come back when he is ready. We will not rush him back.
"We want to resolve this problem once and for all and we will make sure we do that."
Torres has already missed five weeks of the campaign with a similar complaint, although the Reds have coped superbly in his previous absences, recording victories over Manchester United and Chelsea.
It is the fifth hamstring injury Torres has suffered in the 16 months since his arrival at Anfield from Atletico Madrid, having been hit by three similar injuries on international duty and two now with his club.
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League but have drawn their last two home games without scoring a goal, with new signing Robbie Keane still finding his form since his £20 million move from Tottenham in the summer.

from the first comment NEWS FLASH we havnt even play them scummers this season and whos first in the premier league table enlighten me oh thats right LIVERPOOL!
Getting of that subject i dont think Rafa needs to get more strikers i mean weve got keane torres (when he gets out of his injury) kuyt i mean we cant be doing that bad if we are first in the table!
OH JUST 1 MORE THING COME ON LIVERPOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dont forget liverpool been beat man utd and chelsea without TORRES! dont worry liverpool fans liverpool can beat blackburn this sat and will champion preimership title in 2009! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssshhhhhhh!
What a bloody coincidence,Arseonal haven't beaten Liverpool either.Funny one that!!
And btw --- Just so people no --- LIVERPOOL HAVENT BEATEN ARSENAL THIS SEASON
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Now liverpool will fall back to forth place - where they belong
dont man utd fukin so called super mouths love themselves.only because no one else does.must admit though, they do have what no one else has......the biggest toilet, its for all the there @#$%,losers
All you lot slagin Liverpool off, but who's top of the league? With or with out Torres, TOP OF THE LEAGUE! Beat Man U with out him & beat Chelsea with out him, we dont have to find excuses!
rafa b less caution at anfield please....keane solo is not good he needs a partner and kuyt and reira are slow in comparison plus two defensive midfielders against fulham come on that is not on I fully understand the boos because liverpool fans expect flowing adventuresome football at home...so how about the spare central defender agger becoming an occasional attacker as he can do effectively, how about more matches consistently for the fast babel who can dribble anywhere in or near the box a very exciting player when he is given the chance and still so young do not et this guy lose his confidence please. Lukasc I'm afraid needs more time training offensively because I am unsure of his role when he does play!!! Lets have the movement at home the one twos the courage to try new things....benitez come out of your spanish shell and attack with flair at anfield.
He was rushed back cos Rafa knows Keane, Babel, Ngog and Kuyt are all fukin s hit. Y.N.W.A You'll never win anything
This is excellent news. Another thing for the scousers to moan about. Oh but sorry, you're not a two man team are you?... ;)
he was rushed back too soon
67 ive no problem wi any fan reading the reports, i do myself but i dont comment on other teams wi bullsh1t remarks
It's bad that Torres is out, but we have coped well so far this season without him. I would rather he is out for a while only if his injury gets sorted as there is no point him rushing back and getting injured again. Hopefully in the next month the problem gets fixed, so he can play the rest of his career at Anfield injury free.

Looserpool will not gonna win anything ...look at Westham game and u all see what i mean ...GO UNITED!
why do all u non lfc fans keep commenting on lfc news reports and talking @#$%, obviously ur own clubs are a load of @#$% or u wouldnt be reading about liverpool get a life u LOSERS
Y.N.W.A
Its not good that we are gonna be without fernando untill January but we are in a posistion to silence our critics and power on. On the other hand we cant afford any more of these goalless draws, Beating Utd and chelsea is all well and good but if we keep dropping points against the lower sides were gonna be in trouble.
Come on boys, Lets hammer Blackburn and prove we are genuine contenders this time!
'You'll never walk alone' !!!!
Darn best striker is out for a while :l
Keane will come good but the formation that rafa plays doesnt suit him he cant play as a lone striker, but i have no idea what goes on in rafas mind, taking keane off for ngogg whats that all about
