Den replay after Lions hold Walsall

Sat 05 Jan, 05:00 PM

Millwall battled hard to snatch a replay in the goalless all-League One FA Cup third-round tie at Walsall on Saturday. The Saddlers extended their unbeaten run to 16 league and cup matches after coming close to grabbing a winner but with centre-backs Paul Robinson and Zak Whitbread outstanding, the Lions earned a second chance at the New Den.

In the first half, Jay Simpson went close for Millwall in the 10th minute with a blistering drive which Clayton Ince tipped over, before Alex Nicholls failed with a clear chance for Walsall when clean through and had a shot saved by Lenny Pidgeley.

Ten seconds into the second half, Nicholls raced into the clear again, but once more was thwarted by Pidgeley, who beat out his drive.

Troy Deeney had another volley blocked and as tempers became frayed, the referee booked Millwall's Ali Fuseini and Walsall's Darren Wrack in quick succession.

With time running out, Walsall's outstanding defender, Rhys Weston, created a chance which Deeney pulled wide.
