Imps continue revival at Dale

Sat 05 Jan, 07:15 PM

Lincoln continued their recovery under Peter Jackson with a hard-fought and well-earned 2-0 victory over Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday. The hosts went into the match full of confidence on the back of an unbeaten run throughout December but they found the Imps a well-organised and resilient outfit, belying their lowly position in the League Two table.

Jamie Forrester netted the first from close range, following up Adam Smith's angled drive which had been parried by goal keeper Sam Russell in the 81st minute.

And the win was wrapped up when Lee Frecklington blasted a low drive in off the post just two minutes later.

Lincoln had enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the first-half and went close when defender Nat Brown met Lee Ridley's free-kick with a header just over the bar.

The best chance of the half fell to the home side with time added on but Glenn Murray volleyed over the bar when unmarked 10 yards from goal and although Murray did have the ball in the net on 70 minutes, it was ruled out for handball.
