Former Middlesbrough and England midfielder Paul Ince has given his backing to under-fire Boro boss Gareth Southgate.Ince has earned rave reviews after leading MK Dons to the top of League Two, but believes Boro have a fine manager of their own.

The ex-England midfielder told the Evening Gazette: "I'm happy to start at League Two, but Gareth is a very lucky man.

"It's fantastic for him to get an opportunity in the Premiership with his very first job. Not many people get that. But it's also a great decision by chairman Steve Gibson, because he has appointed a manager who can go on to do an excellent job.

"And the important thing for Gareth is that he will be given time at Boro to develop and turn them into an even more successful club."
