On-loan defender Michael Liddle has extended his stay at League One club Carlisle until mid-February from Premier League side Sunderland.Liddle, 19, has made nine starts for the Cumbrians since joining on loan from the Black Cats in November and his arrival has coincided with an upturn in fortunes for the club.

Manager Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "Michael has settled really well with us and we are delighted that we have been able to extend his loan spell.

"He is enjoying his football, and I think it is of benefit to all concerned that he is getting a regular run of competitive games at this level."
