Mon 05 Jan, 01:30 PM

Scunthorpe defender Andrew Wright admitted he felt like a huge weight had been lifted when he signed a new 18-month contract at Glanford Park. The 23-year-old right-back was left to decide between a new deal and returning to play in America, but the former Liverpool trainee was "relieved" to extend his stay.

He told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to have finally got it sorted. It's been playing on my mind for a few weeks and has been stressful to be honest.

"I'm just relieved top have finally sorted it. Hopefully I can push on from here and become a better player.

"It gives me the chance to focus on my football. I don't have to worry about my personal life in terms of where I'm going to be in a few months time.

"I know where I'm going to be for the next 18 months now so I can knuckle down and focus on my football. I'm very happy at Scunthorpe United."
