Championship - Owusu-Abeyie leaves Birmingham

Eurosport - Mon, 05 Jan 15:12:00 2009

Birmingham have allowed former Arsenal forward Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to return to Spartak Moscow.

FOOTBALL Birmingham City Quincy Owusu-Abeyie - 0

Quincy's six-month loan at St Andrew's ended as the transfer window re-opened and Blues manager Alex McLeish has opted not to pursue an extension.

Former Scotland boss McLeish now intends to raid the winter transfer market using the funds he will save by allowing Quincy to leave.

"We thank Quincy for his efforts and wish him well for the future," McLeish said.

"Having made this decision we will now continue to work to strengthen the squad.

"His deal was an expensive one for just one player and we will now look to use the money to bring in new faces."

Quincy, 22, scored three goals in his short spell with the Coca-Cola Championship promotion hopefuls.

  1. Cannot help but agree with everyone else. Why get rid of the only player with attacking flair?Still the manager has history as he got rid of De Ridder and wouldn't give Zarate enough playing time.Still we have bought some unknown guy from non-league football to replace Quincy haven't we!!!

  3. Without a shadow of a doubt potentially the best player we have had at Blues for years, McLeish publicly came out and stated 'I want to create a team with flair', and then the next day releases clearly our most skillfull player, why on earth has this complete !"£$$ not been sacked......signed Zarate, great signing, never played him, signs McFadden and plays him purely because hes Scottish, most overrated player Ive ever seen at Blues, puts all his eggs in one basket and gambles on Gary Cahill coming to Brum, fails to land him and we're left without a strong Centre half for the most critical part of the season, consequently promises he would never do the same thing again and gamble on one player, once again does the same thing with Balde. He then decides Palacios wasnt good enough and 3 months later suprise suprise is being touted by Man Utd for 18m, lets De Ridder leave, scores 2 on his debut.......the list goes on...........simple fact is this, with 'Big Eck' in charge its Coca Cola Championship again next season, with the apparent players we have and we cant beat Swansea, Forest, Derby, Coventry........................................Think on Sullivan and get rid

  4. I hope McLeish knows something we don't - Quincy is 22, good going forward, tackles back and can score goals - makes you wonder why we're keeping Damien Johnson on the books doesn't it?
