Sunderland striker El Hadji Diouf has warned Ricky Sbragia he could leave the club in January if he is not given assurances of regular action.
The Senegal ace has barely featured since Sbragia replaced Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light and he is worried he is not part of the new manager's plans.
Diouf starred in Saturday's FA Cup third-round win over former club Bolton, but that was his first appearance in a month and he now wants to find out whether he has a future on Wearside.
He has been linked with a return to Bolton and a reunion with Sam Allardyce at Blackburn, and he admits he may look to leave the Black Cats this month if he is not in Sbragia's plans.
"I need a proper chat with Ricky to find out what his plans are for me," Diouf, who joined Sunderland six months ago, said. "I don't know how important he thinks I am.
"I am just waiting to see what happens. I have already had a brief chat with him, but I want a longer conversation.
"I was very happy to play against my old team and the fact we won obviously made it much better. But I need to see what Ricky imagines me doing in the second half of the season.
"The bottom line is that I want to play and I have only been playing a little bit in recent weeks.
"I know Ricky very well because we worked together at Bolton and that's why I'm very honest with him and can tell him exactly what I want.
"Hopefully, he feels exactly the same and will tell me whether he needs me or not. I don't know what will happen, but if I'm picked for more games why shouldn't I stay?
"Certainly I have no regrets joining Sunderland and I want to be successful here. But if I am not playing and don't feel needed, I would want to go."

The teams already met at the Bridge...Score was 1-1
I think they should let diouf play ,cos he is a good player.
This is message from Luiz Felipe Scolari: I rate this player very high ehh he score so many goals ehh especially when you consider ehh penalty he give away and own goals he is ehh best player on opponent team every time he is ehh on the pitch. I very much hope Manchester United sign him that way ehh maybe we have chance to beat them. He play for Man U, give up penalty, score own goal, and maybe everybody ehh finally get off Big Phil's back. Then we must figure out way to ehh win at Stamford Bridge.
With much ehh love,
Big Phil
Let him go he is not good enough to be making demands!
diouf id not good enough for premier league football. can someone please talk to him
comment 11:
u do no diouf is a striker, not a holding midfielder
He played well on Saturday but previous performances have lacked a sense of urgency, does too much ball watching for my liking, but still better than Whitehead in a holding midfield role.
diouf is finished.as a striker, how many goals has he scored?he should even be hapy that hes given something but otherwiz no club is willin to buy a finished striker like him.he should accept it,hes time is gone
Sell him to Spurs!! im sure they pay a stupid amount for him.
LOL, what an excuse of a player! Nobody wants him if he leaves!

He's demanding show down talks!!? If he demanded them from me, i'd spit in his face and break his shin for a laugh. I mean honestly he won African player of the year a good while back, has he ever played any where near as good as he did since then? No. He's lazy and gets off on his image more than anything else. Think he's in the same boat as Adebayour.
Let Diouff go if he isn't happy and sign Zambian International Chris Katongo, he can
do a much better job and will be on the cheap. Jolla Man.
whats his problem, hes just signed for the club, hes contracted to be at the club for a few year, and hes demanding talks and all sorts, he hasn't done anything for the club or hit any of his previous form, that is why he is on the bench. If he wants to be in the team maybe he should try harder and prove that he is good enough instead of whineing.
Diouf demands --- so what let him leave he is a waste of space
For a player of his 30s he should be playing regularly if it is fit if not there is nothing the coach can do,it will be better for him to leave if regular shirt is not possible
