Premier League - Poll: Arsenal to scrape fourth

Eurosport - Mon, 05 Jan 14:38:00 2009

Eurosport-Yahoo! readers think that Arsenal will overcome injuries and a dip in form to scrape into the Champions League next season.

FOOTBALL Arsenal players celebrate after scoring in FA Cup against Plymouth at Emirates - 0

We asked you where the Gunners would finish at the end of the campaign after a difficult start was compounded by the loss of Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky through injury.

It seems that most of you are realistic enough, with a whopping 68 per cent of almost 5,000 voters reckoning fourth or fifth is about right.

Eight per cent more thought fourth was more likely than fifth, perhaps hinting at a lack of confidence in Aston Villa, who currently occupy the final Champions League position with three points more than Arsenal.

The die-hard Gooners amongst you appear to have gone full-gun with the positive prediction, with almost three times as many going for champions than runners-up.

That is unlikely to happen, although 11 per cent thought that they might overcome one of Manchester United, Chelsea or current leaders Liverpool to nab third.

Final poll: Where will Arsenal finish this season?

Champions: 8%

Second: 3%

Third: 11%

Fourth: 38%

Fifth: 30%

Sixth or lower: 10%

  6. but even so there's no denying Villa have a great squad capable of finishing 4th, i just think they won't.

  7. villa are looking good at the mo but they've had their fair share of luck this season, that wont last forever and arsenal haven't played well yet so i believe if they start playing closer to their best they should be fine. arsenal have alot more to come but how much more do villa have? time will tell.

  8. Just too many Spurs fans on here trying to rile up the Arsenal fans. Jealousy is easily spotted through words.

  9. speaking from a neutral view, i think Villa will stop getting lucky with their results and finish below the top 4. honestly, how many matches have hey won with last minute own goals and maybe late penalties.

  15. O'Neil maybe be smaller but I reckon he'd take Wenger the ''I didn't see it'' paranoid sycziophrenic . Only time will tell but I think Everton are more of a threat than Arsenal

  16. the guy brought silvestre ffs, a man u reject whos already scored an own goal...

open up that rich london wallet if you want to compete...

  17. i respect villa and think Martin o'neil is one of the best managers in the prem without doubt but i cannot see them keeping fourth with the squad they have. fifth is still a brillian result for them and with more depth and a larger team they will be top four contenders soon!!

    Arsenal Fan!!

  18. Villa look a better team, everyones happy and knows there roles, arsenal are a doomed club too many egos and inexperiance, wenger cant compete with the top managers anymore, theyd be best of making him the youth team coach!

From glenn, on Mon 5 Jan 2:59PM
  19. those arsenal neophytes are not sapable of winning even wooden trophy not talk of qualifying for champions league.

From fateh, on Mon 5 Jan 2:54PM
  20. TOMMIHEW - your money is safe, Wenger wont let the Arsenal slip outta the top four in the second half of the season. Villa are just wannabes, no way are they gonna get into the top four I reckon they'll finish 6th or 7th just wait till they get a few injuries like every team does in the second half of the season. Martin O'neil is a right wan@er did you see him on the touch line with Wenger, had little man sydrom the @#$%.
