Premier League - West Ham: Parker not for sale

Eurosport - Mon, 05 Jan 09:57:00 2009

West Ham have insisted Scott Parker is not for sale despite rumours linking the England international with a move to Manchester City.

The former Chelsea midfielder is one of a number of Hammers stars being linked with a move away from Upton Park during the January transfer window.

Reports had suggested City were about to seal a deal worth around £12 million for the 28-year-old.

But the Hammers have told Sky Sports News Parker he is not for sale.

Parker has been with West Ham for just 18 months after moving from Newcastle for £8m in June 2007.

But West Ham's current financial problems could force the club to sell some of their big name players, with Parker just one of a number of Hammers stars touted to move on.

City have emerged as favourites to land the former Charlton ace after boss Mark Hughes was handed a £100m January war chest by the club's Arab owners.

Craig Bellamy and Mathew Upson have also been identified as players Hughes would like to take to Eastlands, while Robert Green, Lucas Neill, Valon Behrami and Julien Faubert have been linked to other clubs.

Parker would become City's second signing of the new year following the arrival of Wayne Bridge from Chelsea in a deal worth £9m over the weekend.

  3. excellent point from you jezz m,if your boss can afford to spend 100 mil why dont you spend it on good quality players instead wasting it on players who just dont cut it.I think the owners should use the money they have to lure a world class manager who will spend their money wisely on quality players and get rid of the current manager because clearly he is a waste of time.

  4. The only players the Hammers need rid of is the money grabbers i.e.Lucas "Im not very good" Neill..Boa Morte..Faubert..And the 2 italian loan signings..No intrest in West Ham all just there for a easy pay day..Nobel.Sears..Collinson..Tomkins..These 4 are there because of the love of the club..Like Nobel said when linked with Celtic last January he would rather retire than join another team..

  6. Ok looking to youth, but really what does Noble give us ? Collinson far better, so cash in while Arse are still a bit interested. Got to keep Mullins as cover defensive midfielder. As for parker when he starts passing the ball forward and giving our strikers a chance, then maybe he will be ok, all he does is pass sideways or back or give the ball away then has to to do one of his famous last ditch takles to prevent a scoring oppertunity to the opposition.

The hammers side needs sorting out from the bottom up, out with the old and give the youngsters a chance, Fred sears is ten times better than cole will ever be cole cant hit a barn door with a banjoo. Neil, cole, illunga, gabbidon, etherington, mullins all need to go we have youth in collison, noble, tomkins and sears...zola see the light you know it makes sense....up the hammers !!!

  9. I would have thought that just getting Etherington's gambling debts off the books would help no end. Get rid of the cash cows though who are just here for the dosh, that's Neill and Boa Morte. Walker and Quashie have been farmed out already, they should be followed by the likes of Mullins and Davenport, plus the loan twins Di Michele and Tristan.......Why are they here????? Collinson and Noble display the faith in youth!

  10. Calum Davenport, Julien Faubert, Hayden Mullins, Jimmy Walker, Luis Boa Morte, Nigel Quashie, Danny Gabbidon, Lee Bowyer, Matthew Etherington - Surplus to requirements - getting shot of that lot should keep the finances under control and loosen the pressure to sell the better players.
Off to Southend and Leyton Orient with ya

  11. With the type of players Hughes is targeting with 100m pounds goes to shows he is not the right man for the city job.Why do the English managers go for same kind of players when a billionaire takes over their clubs, scot Parker, Matthew Upson, Bellamy, Dyer. They are past thier prime and its time these managers realise it.

  12. you've put Noble in your list ? bit harsh? hammer through and through and you want to get rid? Fair enough to the others

  13. Glad to see Zola sticking to his guns. There are a few players such as,Neil, faubert,Noble, and Rigor mortis, who should be shown the exit door before Parker.

  14. It's a relief to hear that Zola isn't getting overuled the same way they did to Curbishley. I get the impression that Zola will leave if he gets dicked around by the board - stick to your guns Zola
