Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has revealed his relief at last weekend's victory over West Ham - admitting it was a 'must win' for Latics.Kevin Kilbane pounced on the stroke of half-time to hand Steve Bruce's team a vital triumph which lifted them two points above the relegation zone.

"We had to get a win as it's really tight down there in the league table, but I thought we deserved it and it could have been more comfortable for us in the end," Kirkland told the club's official website.

"Just before half-time when it's goalless, there's no better time to score.

"It gave us a massive boost and it put us on the front foot in the second half."
