Bury chose Alan Knill as their new manager for his "ambition" and believe he can "drive the club forward", according to director Ian Harrop.Knill, who leaves his post as assistant manager at Chesterfield, takes charge of the Shakers for Tuesday's match with Stockport, with his new club teetering two points above the relegation zone and still reeling from a 5-1 thrashing by MK Dons.
"We decided Alan was the right man for the job - in the short-term to keep us in the Football League and moving ahead to drive the club forward. He knows everything about the Bury players and is very professional." Harrop told Bury's official website.
"Alan had a very good job at Chesterfield. He could have stayed there as they have every chance of making the play-offs. He is ambitious, he desperately wants to be a full-time manager.
"This was amicably agreed with Chesterfield and Alan comes with their blessing."
The future of Chris Brass, who was put in temporary charge at Gigg Lane following the dismissal of Chris Casper in January, will be decided in the coming days.
