Walsall midfielder Edrissa Sonko has been named League One's Player of the Month for January after scoring four goals during the month.The Gambia international was in outstanding form in January, netting twice against Swindon and also scoring goals against both Bristol Rovers and Gillingham to help the Saddlers move into the play-off places.

Also short-listed for the January award were Danny Coles of Bristol Rovers, Steven Gillespie of Cheltenham and Swansea's Guillem Bauzza.

Chris Kamara, chairman of the Powerade Player of the Month Awards panel, said: "Edrissa has really come to prominence at Walsall this season.

"He's been in outstanding form in January and his goals from midfield have come at vital times and have helped his side remain unbeaten in the month."
