The future of Nigeria coach Berti Vogts is still to be decided by the country's football association following the team's exit from the African Cup of Nations.
Vogts was handed a stay of execution after a night of talks and the three-hour delay of a planned news conference in Ghana where it had been widely expected the former German World Cup winner would be shown the door after a year in charge of the Super Eagles.
Instead, Nigerian Football Association spokesman Mohamed Ladan said: "We regret the rumours in the international media that Vogts is being sacked. Any further communication on his position will be made from Lagos when we return."
The officials said they would be looking closely into the team's performance at the tournament but added no further details.
Nigeria lost 2-1 to arch rivals Ghana in Sunday's quarter-final in Accra but had been unconvincing qualifiers for the last eight, scoring just twice in their group matches and only progressing on goal difference ahead of Mali.
The coach said he would reflect on his position on his return home to Germany.
"I am disappointed, that is true, but it doesn't mean that I will throw everything away," Vogts told Die Welt.
"I am going to think about what happened in a calm atmosphere in Germany, but I have been in football too long to worry about rumours."
