The 22-year-old won gold in Beijing and has held the world 110m hurdles record since June 2008, but an ankle injury has ruled him out of Stuttgart.

In his absence fellow Beijing champion, Kenyan Wilfred Bungei will contest the men's 800m, while gold medallist Russian steeplechase champion Gulnara Samitova-Galkina will contest the men's 1500m.

Compatriot Yuriy Borzakovskiy, who won men's 800m gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and Ethiopia's Meseret Defar, who won women's 5000m gold in Beijing, will also be in action.

A prize of 25,000 euros is on offer for any world records broken in Stuttgart.
