Stoner blasts 'late' rule change

Sun, 05 Feb 13:17:00 2012

Casey Stoner has hit out at a change to MotoGP regulations that forced his Repsol Honda team to add 4 kilogrammes (8.8 pounds) in weight to their new 1000cc bikes for the 2012 season, saying its "late" introduction has caused problems in cornering.

The world champion, who was half a second clear of his rivals in testing of the new machines at Sepang this week, said the team's bikes had been "developed with a specific weight in mind" and that the situation was "rather frustrating".

"We already had the bike developed and then they decided to change the regulations," the Australian, who is due to become a father for the first time in a few weeks, said in an interview published by his team on Sunday.

"This affects the bike," added the 26-year-old.

"It isn't something that you notice much in your general riding, but unfortunately you do feel it quite a bit mid-corner.

"We have to try to adapt a little more and overcome this, but it is disappointing that the decision was made so late on."

Riders have a final series of tests in Jerez, Spain at the end of March before the opening Grand Prix of the season in Qatar on April 8.

  1. @ i'mnotrightuknow,

  3. Again we have a situation with buffoons running an organisation. Do tell how did Honda build a bike under weight, 'they didnt'. They worked to rules like all the other teams and came up with a brilliant lightweight, great work by the Honda works. That must have upset some other team/s or some big wig and they are now having to add weight. I cant see any bike/car designers build a machine thats not inside the rules and then have to set about adding 4 kilos 'That is a lot to reset into a bike. Some one was not happy. Rossi still has the balls to mix it at the front and he willas long as the hungers still there and i think it is .Well here's to a good years racing

@sparra1967 , i fail to see what me riding a bike has to do with anything?? Anyway i have been going to assen for last 6 years and i have also been sachsenring in 2001 and have also been to several wsbk races! Back to your 1st point , i dont remember stating that stating that stoner would win more championships than rossi! Guess you are just blinded by your loyalty to him. Rossi is legend but im afraid his time is over and its time for the stoner era , i got an idea why dont you amaze us with your knowledge about bikes as you speak as if you know alot?

  11. Claes - Desmodromic valves have nothing to do with Pnematics at all - a Desmodromic valve is opened and closed mechanically (Camshaft) Desmodromic valve closure is using the reverse of what is done to open the valve. As for Barbera - please don't put him in the same category as Rossi as he never finished 0.1 sec behind Rossi in any race last year - if fact the only time he finished higher was the last race in Valencia !! oh i remeber why now that was the race that Lorenzo was too hot into the first corner and knocked into Dovi who hit Bautista and knocked Rossi, Hayden, Bautista and De Puniet off at the first corner ....!!!!!!

  14. Hi
Glolyn although you might think that the world revolve around you, I was not talking to you:)
    PS M
I again state that Hector was only 0.1 sec after Rossi on a "Valencia" Satellite bike, which is a slightly updated version of the one ridden in Valencia November, not the same as Rossi. Read crash net to once again prove that you do not know anything:) (like that Desmodromic is air pressure supported valves:)
    Cheers Claes

  15. @ know it all no they probably didn't moan but that isn't the way they both were they just got on with it, i don't know how it could be applied to moto gp bikes but it's inevitable that the intention is for all to be crt if dorna can't reduce the deficit between gp and crt they will just penalise the gp bikes until crt end up quicker then that's the end

  16. Did Marco & Valentino complain about the weight "disadvantage" when they rode in 125 & 250 gp classes ? applying dead weight is not the answer ! as it imediatley transfers the advantage to heavier riders.

From know it all, on Thu 9 Feb 23:36
  17. @cluelaes it's dorna and the fim that are talking about min weight limits to try and bring the crt class closer in performance i made the remark about 125 min weight because no one seemed to think that that method of bringing the advantage disadvantage had been used in any moto gp classes when it's been in 125 for donkey's years

    From glyn689, on Thu 9 Feb 22:51
  18. Hi
    Just a thought
A lot of readers have been beatchn about the CRT and that MotoGP will be to standard, and now you talk about min weight bike and rider?? What next same HP??
    Cheers Claes

From Claes, on Thu 9 Feb 7:29
  19. I stand corrected ! their is a minimum weight for moto3 of 148kg bike and rider, that would work for motogp as all riders would be within the limit ! or set the limit for motogp @ 204kg

From know it all, on Thu 9 Feb 1:55
  20. gp 125 minimum weight limit motorcycle + rider 136kg moto gp website check it out again ARE YOU SURE ?
