Hughes back strikers to fire R's to safety

Mark Hughes believes QPR now have the firepower to stave off relegation this season.

The Hoops looked on the way to three points against Wolves on Saturday when debutant Bobby Zamora deservedly gave them a first-half lead.

However, Djibril Cisse's sending-off changed the course of the game and the midlands club went on to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Matt Jarvis and Kevin Doyle.

While frustrated with the result, Hughes was keen to focus on the positives and believes the attacking performance bodes well.

"Obviously you need a level playing field in terms of numbers and that wasn't the case so we were up against it when the sending off happened," he said.

"With the games we have coming up, I think we can more than match those teams and with a little bit of quality we have added that could be the difference in winning those games. Perhaps in the past we would not had enough to take it over the line but we have now. I am confident of that."

  1. @No 4 superhoopsteve I never mentioned Hulse at all and dont know anything about him.I said Helguson and Zamora up front with Buzsaky in Midfield he has earned that spot.Hall was outstanding against Swansea but Warnock froze him out and now Hughes is not playing him.We beat Wigan and were superb now we have taken 2 steps back at the wrong time thats all I am saying .QPR can stay up but losing games when we are ahead cannot happen and that starts with Hughes I am afraid he has forgot how to close out games and we need every point

  2. born to run, what are you like when you do start with team selection. Hulse up front, rather see Hall play as a striker than him.

  3. I have expected Hughes getting results like O'Neill at Sunderland. Cisse banned for 3 days is a disaster so Hughes plan getting extra firepower isnt working. Dissappointed that Hughes and Warnock ignored the players getting promotion last season - Buzacky, Smith, Mackie, etc. I suppose good news that Tarabt played well in Wolves match. He was crucial player last season so he getting back his form. Amazed that QPR hasnt peformed last season compared to Norwich and Swansea. After all QPR won the Championship.

  4. Well said born to run I could`nt agree more. We also needed some quality in defence during the transfer window but that did`nt really happen. It`s touch and go whether we stay up now.

  5. A bigger problem has apeared now Mark because not only did we blow 2 games and throw away 5 points but we are getting ran off the pitch. After being 2-0 up at Villa we retreated and got totally outplayed and it was a miracle we got the point. You would think it was a lesson learned but no 3 days later we take the lead and proceed to go back into the same shell give up 2 goals then play attacking football to try and squeeze a point but run out of time. The best form of defence is attack so why do we do the opposite.I wont start with the team selection but Derry on before Smith or Mackie is truly a joke and when are you going to see Young is getting beaten week after week.Barton is a joke really why is he the Captain again should the skipper not be leading by example .Its time to save the season if we get beaten at Blackburn pack up for the Championship so every game is like a knock out and we have to play to win and pick the correct team as well.Helguson and Zamora up front drop Cisse back and put on Buzacky in place of Barton and Hall instead of Gabbidon or Young
