Teenage defender Shaun Brisley spoke of his pride at making his debut for hometown club Macclesfield against relegation rivals Notts County. The 17-year-old was a shock inclusion for the 1-1 draw on Saturday and admitted he had not expected to be handed a start in Keith Alexander's first game in charge.
He told the club's official website: "I was probably as surprised as anyone. I'd been involved with the first team and travelled to a few away games but I hadn't featured at all. So to be told you are going straight into the first team was a bit of a shock but great at the same time.
"I'm a local lad and have been involved with the club since the age of 13 so I was very proud to go out there and represent my hometown club.
"At the start of the season I set myself the target of making the first team but perhaps from the bench.
"With Keith's arrival I've been given the chance earlier than I expected and it is now up to me to reward the manager for the faith he has shown in me."
