Shrimpers set for stadium decision

Wed 05 Mar, 06:30 PM

Southend have confirmed that the club will find out the result of the planning enquiry into their new 22,000-seater stadium on Thursday.Southend and Rochford Councils gave the Shrimpers planning permission for the development, which will also include a hotel and conferencing facilities, back in January 2007.

However, the application was called in by the Secretary of State for a Public Inquiry - the results of which will be revealed on Thursday.

"The government office have consistently said that the Club would have a decision on its new stadium plans on or before March 6 2008," said chairman Ron Martin.

"The club has been in touch with the Government Office via its lawyers as recently as Monday when it was reaffirmed that the decision would be made on or before March 6.

"Nobody has been given any indication as to what the outcome might be and therefore we all wait with baited breath as to what is a monumental decision affecting the club's future."
