Real held by battling Mallorca

Sat 05 Apr, 11:15 PM

Real Madrid could only extend their lead at the top of Primera Liga by a point after being held to a 1-1 draw by Real Mallorca on Saturday.Wesley Sneijder fired Real ahead just before the break, but the second-half sending off of Sergio Ramos did not help the visitors' cause.

And former Real forward Fernando Valero climbed off the bench to level with a brilliant curling shot on 72 minutes.

The result leaves Bernd Schuster's men seven points clear of second-placed Villarreal.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle's first-half strike gave Recreativo Huelva a much-needed 1-0 victory at Osasuna and saw the Andalusian side move out of the bottom three.

The former Liverpool striker had been suspended for this clash but Recreativo successfully appealed against the player's yellow card in the 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao last weekend.

And the decision proved crucial as the Frenchman struck the winner nine minutes before half-time.
