Puncture For Vouilloz, Rossetti Leads

Sat 05 Apr, 01:04 PM

With this second passage through the Darlik stage, the Rally Istanbul participants encountered somewhat deteriorated conditions in comparison to their earlier run this morning.

The duel opposing Peugeot 207 drivers Nicolas Vouilloz and Luca Rossetti has now turned to the Italian's favour in double fashion. Rossetti established the fastest run over this trail, while the Frenchman punctured a tyre and added over 40 seconds to his run.

Albeit four seconds slower, Anton Alen claimed the second-fastest time with his Fiat Grande Punto. However, the Finn was only 0:00.2 ahead of Freddy Loix's Peugeot 207 Super 2000.

Renato Travaglia and Dani Sola were the next two Grande Punto drivers to cross the line, taking fourth and fifth positions, with Jan Kopecky's Peugeot coming next.

A mix of different cars complete the top ten for this run. Volkan Isik's Abarth Grande Punto S2000 was several seconds ahead of Luca Betti's Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. With over a 30-second delay on the stage leader, Krum Donchev's Subaru Impreza and Fatih Kara's Fiat Punto S1600 followed.

Luca Rossetti is now at the head of Rally Istanbul, holding a strong 22.7 second advantage on another Italian driver, Renato Travaglia. The second position of the general standings is still for the taking however, as Anton Alen stands only 0:01.4 behind in third place. Nicolas Vouilloz slips down to fourth position, 39.6 seconds away from Rossetti, with Sola 2.6 seconds close by.

The Group N drivers are finding it difficult to compete with the Super 2000s. The first is Mehmet Besler, 2:07.4 away in eighth place overall.
